It really can be therapy working on your own Ferrari plus it is quite an accomplishment. Think about the money you saved too. |

Don you certainly made the right choice. Yeah it's relaxing working on the car and there's such a sense of accomplishment when you're done. |

One of the big reasons I bought a 1979 308 is this web site. I was going to buy a Porsche but I would have had to go back to the early 70's to get one with carbs. This way I got one of the latest sports cars that I really thought I could do all (almost all) of the work on. Having this site around is very comforting when something does not go as planned. Presently tackling a new clutch, new water pump, replacing timing belts, and all new hoses, it's taking longer than I thought but I am learning quite a lot. I must say that I find the car to be a joy to work on as they are very finely engineered and clean up nicely |

Of course I would. I plan on doing my timing belts soon, etc. |

Rich, If you had a major repair or service with your Ferrari, say cam seals or valve adjustment, would you tackle it and depend on the guys at F.C. to walk you through it? |

I work on my car for the small stuff. The major service, the electronic stuff, I don't work on it. Art |

Thanks Magoo. I don't always post, so that I won't come across as a know it all or pompous git, like you say we can all learn and I do. I am fortunate to do work for several dealers around the country so I try to be diplomatic. |

Brian, being a professional as yourself that was nicely said. Which brings me to another thought, a person can never learn too much and or know it all. Don't just giggle at some of these comments, you should help out with your expertise. That's what this forum is about. Getting to the bottom of a problem with the correct answer. You are a great help as a addition to the forum and I for one appreciate your input. BRGDS, |

Of course, I get PAID to work on the Fcars so it is different. But it is useful even for a pro to read different points of view/analysis, it is easy to get the wrong mindset about a problem and overlook the obvious sometimes. I giggle at some posts and yes I do feel that some may be a little extreme but it is useful knowledge. I try to stay away from the upgrade/tuning debates, my take is simply that when ready to go faster- buy a faster car but each to his own. Thank you all. |

Without a doubt this discussion board has been a great help and inspiration, and may actually be the only reason I kept my 308! After seeing that you are not alone with your problems and others have worked out fixes and work-arounds similar to your own, it is easier to relax and understand problems/fixes and causes/affects. Perhaps the most valuable lesson: DRIVE your car! Mine never ran so godd as it did after a 3000mi road trip!! |

I would have still done it, but I would've sent a lot more private emails to Fcar guys I've met. I feel the big difference comes with things like those hayden fans, the stronger window motors, etc. Things that are good ideas but you probably wouldn't find out about them otherwise. It is also useful because it's nice to know other people wonder about some of the things that make me want to throw a brick at the car when I'm working on it. |

Without question. I would never had taken my radiator out without consulting the Ferrarichat. These guys told me how to do it, and I did it successfully. I use this site quite often, and it is a tremendous asset to me. As far as I'm concerned, this site has saved me a lot of money. |

I would break into the engine anyway, but this site gives me so much more confidence. Thank you all. ML |

Yes. I've decided to try changing fluids myself - brakes, oil, and coolant - when the car comes out of storage April 1. Next door neighbor has a shop with lifts. Might also try installing exhaust upgrade on my own. Would never have considered doing these things without FerrariChat, which is kind of a confidence builder. The engine out items - now that's a different matter. Won't need that kind of service for another 18 months. We'll see. |

Yes, it does. I have been motivated to work on items or investigate things on my 308 I wouldn't have before. This site is Great. |
