Yeah, I agree. When I look at my 79 308GTS I don't see any obstuction at all. Maybe the dipstick tube. It appears that it should drop down without a problem. MAGOO |

First off, the dipstick tube fitting was in the way. A tube, extending about 4" long, at an angle. But, the flat tray that bolts to the pan itself may also get in the way. When I go to put it back on, I'll check to see if it'll remove again (when I first attempted to remove it, that dipstick fitting was still in place without me realising it. Now with it out, I'll try it that way). I believe Steve M., I can't see how it would not come off. Looking back now, that tube was really the only intrusion in the path. |

Peter, Herbert said he would be out of town until the 21st. What did you find with the "stuck" pan. MAGOO |

Okay, so I dropped the trans from the block. Yes the real windage-tray is bolted to the block and is onto itself (not connected to the pan as I had mention at the beginning. Just looked like it in the P.C.). Now the flat tray, bolted to the pan itself reaches to the very sides of the sump. The rearward bolt flange (for the pan), protrudes into the opening of the sump. So it looks like it would still not clear the opening. I won't say for sure as I had the trans. sitting on a small table (so therefore I couldn't remove the pan. Only once it was off the engine, then I could flip it over). I'll try it tomorrow. So, to ask this question to Herbert, is this what you meant by: "...You'll see why when you separate the engine from the trans..."? |

Damn, I forgot about the flared dipstick tube fitting, I saw it in the P.C. that it was a long mother... I didn't think it would be in my way. First thing tomorrow morning! Thanks guys once again. |

Peter, I'd swear that I was able to take the engine oil pan off my ex-308/2V after removing the lower dipstick tube (107868) that extends into the crankcase -- alas, the memory fades, but I thought the two lower pieces of the windage tray only attached to the pan itself. |

The oil pan will not come off as you will see why when you seperate the engine from the transmission. There are several bolts in the windage tray that hold it from the inside. |

Tried removing it this morning and its still stuck on. It seems (and looking at the P.C.) that the oil pick-up tube is hanging up on the windage-tray. According to the P.C., the windage-tray is bolted to the engine block AND the oil pan as well. To me this is odd, because you should be able to drop the pan, without having to drop the entire transaxle (which I plan to do tomorrow, but that's beside the point)! I wanted to get the pan off so I could clean it separately. |
