TomD -- What about the linkage mechanics inside the gearbox? I don't know Mondials specifically, but my TR has a frightening number of bits in the "sliding rods-detents" system (and even my ex-308 fractured some springs in the ball detent stuff although it didn't cause a functional problem). The other mechanical area is the stuff sliding on the internal shaft itself to engage R (does your Mondial have a syncromesh R?). With some disassembly I think both internal mechanical systems could be checked independently, but please rely on your own decisions/diagnoses. |

Reverse would make noise....if it was out of adjustment...my 308 before the clutch took a dump, would go into all the gears perfectly and shift fine. Reverse was hard to get in and made a terrible noise. Sometimes it would even pop out of gear. I adjusted the clutch and it was better. But unfortunately a week later I ended replacing the clutch anyways..... |

I thought of that but if the clutch adjustment was out wouldn't it make some noise when I forced it in. Also forward gears are great. I will double check though |

Tom be sure your clutch adjustment is correct and you have the proper pedal travel before assuming anything else. Just a thought. |

Heres the problem- have a hard time getting my 86 mondial into reverse. I basically have to apply a good amount of pressure to finally force it in. consistent cold or warm but maybe slightly worse when warm. I changed the gearbox oil ( using quality synthetic), realigned all the linkaged, try to go into first then to reverse does not help. 1 thru 5 shifts in the most perfect way - smooth as butter with no effort. no crunches in either forward or reverse - when it finally goes into reverse it sort of squeezes in. Relatively new slave cylinder. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
