He uses the front (back of the car) dist. and rebuilds it to assure that the advance system is up to speed. He then installs 2 sets of pertronix's magnetic pick-ups which are phased at 45 degrees and mounts a magnetic rotor on the dist. cam. All this is mounted on a plate which is mounted in the dist. using the screws that used to hold down the points. There are 4 wires that come out of the dist. , 2 for each coil set. Red goes to +12v and black goes to neg. side coil. (1 pair to front coil , 1 pair to rear coil). The rear (firewall side) dist only distributes the spark to 5-8 where as the front dist. sets the timing and also distributes spark to 1-4 . The whole deal costs $450 and it takes about 5-7 days.(I used 3 day UPS from NY to Ca.)Just as a point of reference the parts from Pertronix's are about $150-$180 so you are paying the +/- $300 for the rebuild and fit up labor. Try to cost out a new set of points and the time you spend in setting them up and your payback is about 2-3 point changes plus the plugs will run cleaner so much less wear and tear. If you are interested the guys name is Don King (not the boxing promotor) and he can be reached at 310 606-5695 (Elite Auto). Tell him Steve from NY sent you.

I just got back my dist. after getting it converted to a twin pertronix's breakerless ign. system. Had it done in Ca. buy a guy named Don King and this is a sweet job. Both pickups are in the rear (back) dist. so all you need to do is put it in and set the timing and its done. No boxes to mount and it takes about 1 hour to install. Clean installation.
