Thanx, my search had found the 'nipples' post, but missed the 2nd one that tells that the gun from Stant sold by Discount Auto works. (Now If there were a Discount Auto in my area...) However, I think I've got a solution myself. I remembered coming across my old XK150's hand grease injector a few weeks ago. I haven't used it since I bought a Lubrimatic hand gun in the early '70s. It's got a hemispherical cavity on front with the injection hole in the middle. Should be able to jam it up against an arbitrary size fitting & inject grease as long as you can hold it on tight enough. |

Hello Verell, There was some chat a while back about grease fittings in the door hinges and steering U-joint. I found a couple of links that might help...simply click on either of these two links and they should open in a new browser window: nipples grease fitting solutions The second link might be more substantive and relevant to your questions . Been meaning to grease my door hinges as well -- thanks for the reminder. Hope this info helps, and let us know how it goes or what you find out with regards to the steering U-joints. |

My '82 Euro GTS QV's steering has always had more resistance than seemed normal. Last nite I decided to see if there was anything that might be long overdue for lubricating. On my Euro QV, the upper steering universal joint and all 4 door hinges have small grease fittings. NEED 'SMALL' GUN FITTING: My grease guns won't fit on these fittings. Does anyone know where I can find a head I can use on the end of a std. grease gun that will work with these fittings? Or some other way of forcing grease thru them? WAY TO LUBE LOWER STEERING U-JOINT? This fairly large joint doesn't seem to have a fitting. Also, there's what appears to be a bronze bearing where the shaft goes thru the floor. OILING REDUCED STEERING RESISTANCE: I generously soaked the inside of both steering u-joints and the bronze bearing with 3-in-1 20W electric motor oil. I think it penetrated the u-joint bearings, but am not sure. It definitely wanted to soak into the bronze bearing. After lubeing the bronze bearing, my steering has noticably less resistance. I suspect that the old lubricant had turned to something like tar and was causing the resistance.
