Thanks for the input guys. I think the general
concensus is that they are all high and if it
doesn't slip, there is no problem. I feel better.
After the $5k belt service, I need to catch my breath before I do a clutch!

Hey Ed, I know what the manual says, but EVERYONE,
and I mean EVERYONE, agrees that if the factory suggested interval of 5yrs/15k miles isn't followed, the potential for failure of the belt is high. I have heard estimates of $25k to $50k to rebuild the engine. I decided that the $5k was a good insurance policy.

Take care -

Lou
I have 90 348ts....9k miles
clutch grabs high...
I have loaded it in higher gears and it doesn't slip....
So I feel the same as you stated..if it ain't broke don't fix it...

Also...you don't have to pull motor to do clutch...exhaust comes down and clutch comes out the back...

ferrrari club of northamerican's web site has a blow by blow of how to replace...look in FAQ

Lou,
Mine had a high point of contact before I replaced it a few months back with 28000 miles on it. The new one also with only 1000 miles on it has had a high grab point from the first day after it settled it. The best way (and funnest way) to tell if the clutch is going is that it will start slipping a very high RPMs 6000+. So to test if your clutch is good I suggest taking your car out at least once each time you drive it and slamming through the first 4 gears all the way to redline! :P Yes it does pull it easily in 4th at 140mph! :P

Lou,

Funny you mentioned the clutch high-point of contact. Mine is high as well although it is still strong.

I am wondering if my clutch is due for service soon . The car has 22k miles.

I bet that if you read your owners manual that you would see that the factory recommended mileage to replace the belt is much longer than 15000 miles.

Do all the clutches on 348's have a high point
of contact?

Mine has 2000 miles on it and it contacts
at the top. I hear that most of them are similar, but my local dealer told me that it may be indicative of premature wear.

I have no symptoms other than a high contact
point, so the general concensus is to do nothing.
If it ain't broke. . . Anybody have any thoughts?

BTW, it is currently having its 15k belt service
by Miller Motorcars. The car is a 1991 with 13500
miles on it. . . and the original belt that was removed is FLAWLESS! I know, I know, an ounce of prevention blah, blah, but damn, $5k to change something that looks brand new is a little rough.

Can't wait to get her back, though - life is boring without her!
