James, Tubi sells the cat replacement pipe, as for noise volume I think that at full throttle its a little quieter than a Harley. I like race cars, its loud inside, almost too loud for long rides but hearing a flat 12's real voice is great :)

Ya, I personally have not heard any Borla sounds, maybe you and William can have a "Sound Off" :)

The whine on the Tubi probably sounds higher pitch and more like F1 style cars, and the deeper throatier is the Borla sounds, I suppose :)

Damn too bad I already have the Tubi, I personally like deeper hum and rumbling sound.

Still have cats on mine though, maybe I'll love it after I take them off.

I bought the borla system minus the cats for my tr and people with tubis tell me they like the sound better. The build quality is great, and it looks better. I had tubi on my old 308, only to change it for a borla. Not to diss tubi (I ordered it for my lotus) but borla is a better sounding, it is throatier as compared to tubi which wines a bit like a motorcycle.

William -

I also have Tubi on my 90 TR right now, I am thinking about removing the cats as well. Where did you get your track pipes? Did you get them through Nick?

I was wondering how much louder is it? Is it too loud to bear in the cabin?

Compare it to a Harley let's say, is it to that degree?

Ive got a Tubi on the 512TR & I love it, I deleted the cat & she is LOUD now!!! Just the way I like my cars :) Everybody loves it when I drive by although Ive scared a few people during full throttle passes :)
I'm sure deleting the cat upped the hp & I think the Tubi helped a bit, although the sound alone is worth it :)

Chris

Its hard to say if there is a real improvement or a perceived improvement due to the extra noise!

I've never dyno'ed the car & a "back to back" run would be the only way.

It seems a little better in the lower gears at 2500~3000rpm. At higher speeds it tough to tell the difference.

Perhaps it is better, but that NOISE is worth it!

I know of a few 355's & 360's with TUBI's & they definitely seem to have a significant power gain.

I think that the later cars with cats & tougher noise restrictions as standard gain the most.

The sound must be similar to the WRC rally cars with the chirping and popping...cool.

Bernard,

what about the horsepower....?
Notice any improvement? I have a 348 Spider
and am considering the expense...

I would say that the system is generally welded to a high standard. Certainly better than the standard system that had a few minor cracks around the mountings that were only visable after removal.

In the past on this forum, there have been comments/concerns about the quality of welds on the Tubi. What was your observation, if any?

I've just fitted a Tubi exhaust to my GTS Turbo, and have been asked for my opinion on the system, so here it is!

My car is a turbo'ed 328 Italian market spec', its quite rare, perhaps only 700 or so were made. When I ordered the Tubi, I was told it was not a stock item & would have to be made to order, I was quoted about 4 weeks, but being Italian, I thought at least 6~8!

It arrived in 3 weeks! So far so good!

The main "box" is about 300mm (12") narrower than the standard system its smaller in circumference and perhaps 5~6kg's lighter (10lbs).

I did not weigh it so this is just subjective.

Its TIG welded & fully polished, on the standard system there are 4 pipes that exit to the rear of the car, on the Tubi there are just 2 larger pipes that then split into 4 via "Y" pieces just behind the grill on the rear bumper. When fitted it looks stock to a casual glance.

Overall its very well finished.

However there is always one problem! The system has a flange that mounts to the waste gate on the turbo, this is about 6mm (1/4") thick, & when it was welded the heat had distorted it so it had a considerable "bow", perhaps 2mm at worst. I remachined this flat, I have easy access to this type of equipment so it was no problem, but it could be very annoying for others.

This could just be a "one off", as on the standard 308/328 this pipe/flange is not present.

Otherwise fitting was easy, all holes, mountings, flanges in the correct place & at the right angles.

Being smaller there's more access to all the nuts & bolts. It took about 20 mins max to refit.

At idle its little nosier than the stock system, but blip the throttle and it sounds much "harder" with a nice rasp. At speed it is noiser, but no resonance, just a nice hard rasp!

But on the over run!!!! It pops & crackles totally unlike standard, for my first test I was just running it up to about 6000~7000 rpm in 2nd & coming off the throttle time & again just to hear it!! Bellisimo!

Overall 10/10, it was quite expensive (£1250.00) but who cares? Its music.
