I had a faint fuel odor coming from the engine bay of my 328, and some spotting on the floor of my garage. I traced it to the drain plug of the aluminum gas tank connentor pipe. It was probably overtorqued at some point, and then someone tried to fix it by welding. I ended up having the pipe and hoses replaced. No smell, no leak anymore. |

I have had this problem with a couple of cars. The filler neck seals are the first place to look (and cheapest) If that doesn't do it, probably most any repair shop has a tool to pressurize the tank and look for the leak. Emissions stations in Colorado also pressurize the system to make sure there are no leaks. If it leaks, you fail. Dave |

On a full tank, I have found out that my carbon cannister likes to fill-up with gas with lots of right handers. But your not full. I have felt that my cannister is mounted too low anyway. How low is yours? I would also check all those connections. |

Jerry, We had a post on replacing the bypass hose on the filler neck. It gets old, cracks and leaks down on the manifold. Check the archives under filler neck. Magoo |

I had 1/2 tank of gas when I noticed it. Gas evaps so fast that I was unable to see any sign of what I smelled. I thought it might be "venting" fumes or something. |

The fittings are on the other side of the tank for the most part, but the baffles might make it behave abnormally regarding to where fuel would be reaching the top. I don't think there is anything on the passenger side tank, although there may be a vent system. They're hard to see, but pulling the wheel wells opens up a lot of room down there. |

Does it matter how much fuel is in the car? On a right turn fuel will be forced over to the left side tank, I would check all top connections and seals including the filler neck. |

I noticed that when I make long right turns with my 308GTSI (expressway ramps, clover leafs etc.) I am smelling a strong odor of gas. This is concerning considering the fire potential. Have any of you ever run across this? |
