Antony, this was a problem on my 84 GTS on the drivers side. Everyone is correct on what they say here. I had my door latch realigned and it never happened again.

Thanks for the comments - I had a look at the latch and the springs and found them pretty badly worn. Also found that the key barrel don't work - they have had a screwdriver or something thru it - looks like an attempt at break-in. Am going to order some new parts. Thanks again to everyone.

I would like to mention that my 308 has 146000kms on it, has seen many tracks and the doors open when I want them to, not when I hit a bump or turn a corner.

308/328 series are not especially stiff, even in GTB form. However, I would like to mention that my neighbor broke the windshield in his ford taurus going over a lump at the head of his driveway at an angle. I am sure a door latch can be made that will never open, no matter how much a car flexes, but 308's don't have them.

If I had a car that flexed so much that the doors opened in turns, it would be on ebay right now. You can take the biggest lumpy domestic convertible you can find that flexes like a waterbed and the doors wont pop open. Adjusting may help but the latch shouldnt mechanically move its internals so it releases. That doesnt make sense to me.

This is an old problem in the gts. Remember they cut the gtb to make it. The car will flex a little inspite of the extra 300 .lbs.So if your linkage is bent or off a little it will disengage from the latch. Reset and align and it will be fine.

I had this happen on the passenger side of an 84 GTS I used to have. In this case, the problem was caused by people trying to close the door with the lock down, thus bending parts of the latch. It took a mechanic about an hour to go through it, straigten parts, realign and then it was fine. Yours sounds much worse than mine, but that's a place to look. I have seen other 308/328 GTS's where the doors will come ajar if the car is twisted just right on a curve and a hump simultaneously. Another reason I like GTB's.

If the door is aligned properly and everything is adjusted, the latch is junk. The wind wont lift the handle out. It may only need removing and cleaning to remove build up causing the mechanism no to function correctly. Some latches use lite spings to move components in the latch. Gummy or hard grease will mess this function up. I would degrease the latch and lube it again. If it still unlatches, replace it.

I have a weird problem. No matter if I'm driving at high or low speeds, cornering or on the straight or in a high wind or calm day the driver's side door unlocks but not completely and comes slightly ajar - enough to give you a scare particularly at high speed. I have to slow down or stop and close the door when it happens.

Had a few people look at it, have tried realignment of the door, installed central locking, readjusted the door handle as I thought maybe the wind grabs it and slightly lifts it open - no success in finding a solution - HELP !!!!
