I thought folks generally believed the cars would run much better set to 16 BTDC which is the european stock setup? |

Thanks Peter I am thinking of statically setting the timing before I put the engine back in the car. And then, immediately swapping to electronic Crane Cams set up to get the engine up and running. So, I am hoping that the condition of the points and condensors will not matter. But ... you know how that goes. |

Set the R1's to 7° BTDC and you'll be fine. This is the stock setting for them anyways when running both points (when R2's are set to 3° ATDC for the first 1500RPM, for emissions reasons). Check the condition of the point tungsten tips first and CAREFULLY recondition if needed. Replace condensors with GM ones (@ NAPA: Echlin MA3. Same microfarad spec). |

I am getting close to that stage where setting the point is required. What are the "words of wisdom" when it comes to setting timing. Here are my conditions: 1. Only one set of points, 2. Driving on the street, and not racing What is the spec for the timing with the one remaining point? |
