Thanks for the help guys. It appears that the problem was with 2 of the 32 pin connectors that live in the right rear fenderwell. The lock ring that holds the 2 halves of the connector together was broken, so the contact was intermittent. The other connector was corroded. After RR the locking ring and cleaning up all the connections, car started and has been running fine since. Thanks a lot to Joe San Paolo at Concours Automotive for finding/fixing this. Thanks again Scott |

If you can determine which bank isn't getting spark. It may very well be the coil or coils. I have had my TR for 8 years and I have had to replace both at least once. Email me for a simple way to check the coil function if interested. |

which bank or both with no spark? The left coil controls the fuel as well as spark for the left bank. That is the troublesome one. If both are not working it would be a voltage supply problem from the ignition, check all fusebox connections for continuity. |

Have you checked for full fuel pressure at startup? not just 2 bar, IIRC it should be around 6 bar. you may have fuel but not enough, if that's the case the problem is rather simple...no spark sounds funny to me... even cold should be spark all the time. There is also danger that if you have no spark that raw fuel is going out the exhaust valves and could now be ignited once the car is started. Fuel in the chamber with no spark is BAD. -Ben

Joe, Thanks but I already looked at that thread, and I have a different problem. Happens when the car is cold. I have fuel, but no spark. Mechanic is debugging it, we will see. Scott |

Adam, Thanks, turns out the switch was intermittent, and when I cleaned it, I didn't think to turn the headlights on. Appreciate the help Scott |

Scott; The Hood lights only come on with the hood open, and headlight switch turned to on. |

Took my new TR out for the first extended drive this weekend. Its a 1990 TR and I had a couple of what I think are electrical issues. First one is real minor. The underhood lights dont work, so I figured the bulbs were bad. They checked out fine with a multimeter, worked back to the switch, it to was fine. Traced the wires to the gas strut supports on each side of the engine cover, but cant find any other power connectors, WTH. Anyone know how these dang things work? 2. This one was a bit more troublesome. First thing in the morning go to start the car. Turns over but wont fire. Keep trying on and off for 15 minutes. Battery is giving up the ghost. Try one more time and all I get is click. Wait a couple of seconds try again and engine fires and runs fine. Drive car, park car, drive car, park car, drive car, park for a couple of hours. Same exact symptoms now as first thing in the morning. Just before giving up the ghost, after running the battery down till it wont turn the car over, it starts right up. Car has an aftermarket clifford alarm system, and I think it might be causing the problem, but am not sure. Any ideas. TIA Scott |
