Thanks for the advice springer and Lawrence. I hope that everything goes well with my decision. I was actually thinking that I shoud just purchase an old ferrari 308 motor that needs work, put it in my engine stand and learn my takinf it apart, and hopefully rebuilding it. I would always have a spare engine handy I guess. I w-mailed ted and trudlands to see if they have any used ferrari motors that need work.. Regardless, I am having that ferrari checked out next week. I will tell you guys how it goes. |

Im a 911 guy and have done my own work on them for years. I recently got a 308 GTB that I am also doing my own work on. Basically, the Ferrari is not harder to work on, just dont expect the same level of overall engineering and build quality. The Porsche is a better built, smarter car and is thus easier to work on from a logistics standpoint. Its not that the Ferrari is more complicated (it is in some ways, less complicated in others) but the packaging is very "challenged" and things are hard to reach. I enjoy working on the 308 though and the engine itself is really cool! |

Try asking on the FerrariList.com. At least one lister in the Tulsa area has a Mondial & has had some service done. (Sorry, his name escapes me.) As to Dallas, send Ric Rainbolt email. He knows who's good there(including Ric himself.) He may also have an OKC recommendation. |

I don't think it is so bad. I work on my 944 turbo track car - have done much to it in the way making it a better track car. Accessibility is a little more difficult on my 328 but the engine has less electronics by far and less plumbing. The engine control is like my old Mercedes 450. The greatest trouble I have is the relatively poor service manual. I say this in comparison to my Porsche and Mercedes manuals that tell and show with pictures how to do anything. The F manual has typos in it relative to torques and does not explain sufficiently as far as I am concerned. As you will find out, parts are more available for Porsche than Ferrari. But the best part is that people on this list are friendly and helpful as they are on the P lists. While I have no experience with maintenance on 911's, if you do that I'm sure you'll have little trouble here. |

Guy, I am planning on purchasing a 1981 308 gtsi ferrari with 55000 KM,, I would like to work on the car myself,, and learn how to fix, troubleshoot, and the maintain the car on my own. I have worked on cars occasionaly. I have some experience with 911 porsche engines. What I am asking,, is that,, is it difficult to work on ferrari's. |

I'm not too sure about Ok City, Rick Lindsay in Tulsa might know of someone in your area. |

I've had NO luck finding anyone in Oklahoma City to work on my 308 GTSi. More accurately I suppose, I haven't found anyone I TRUST to work on the car (needs timing belts, valve shms, etc.). Does anyone know of someone in this area that could do the work. I've considered taking the car to Dallas if someone good is there. Thanks in advance for the help. |
