Thanks again , Paul--I just got back from a drive and it seems to be back to normal. I spoke with a mechanic about it as well and he thought that it would be OK and that it would evaporate out shortly--it seems to have done just that. |

I would check the fluid level just to prevent destroying the gearbox anyway. There are drain holes at the bottom of the bellhousing where it meets the adapter plate and there are large open slots big enough to fit your big toe in above and on both sides of the gear cover. If you get oil for example on the clutch disk, it will drag on the plate and flywheel causing a hard shift. It may go away with use as long as it wasnt alot and as long as it doesnt continue to contaminate. |

Thanks, Paul. That is probably what happened as it was all gears. Do you think this warrants a refill of the gear lube or is this something which would correct itself in time? I only drove the car for about 30 mins after gunking and haven't driven it yet today. By the way, where are the vent holes located? Obviously , I'm very new at this. |

Is it possible some of the crap got into the vent holes for the clutch? It is possible the disk is hanging up causing a harder shift. This applies to all gears not just one or two. The gear shifter shaft wouldnt have been affected because its just a rubber bushing, nothing to lube. |

I just bought an '85 308 and in order to pinpoint the location of a minor tranny oil leak, I gunked the gearbox pan /clutch housing area from underneath the car. I took it for a ride to dry it off and I noticed that the car seemed to shift harder after I did this. The question is this: are there any external shift linkages with have lube on them, which I may have gunked off? If so, which ones and about where are they located? |
