Adam...I am planning on bringing the TR on Sat. AM for the concours....still up in the air about putting it on the track. Most probably have my "significant other" with me. I am registered at the Ramada. Sounds like a great idea! |

Tom: I am planning on being at the Pocono meet in June 28-30 with the TR and at the May FCA meet on May 3 (Pocono) but not with the TR (observer only). Are you planning any of these? |

Adam, Appears to be a good decision with the Koenigs. They are the most popular choice over in Europe(UK). Recently a lot of people have been voicing the opinion that Tubis are too much on V12s. Doc - I think you should do the same. Adam - I look forward to your sound files. |

I am also interested in doing something other than stock with my TR but am a little concerned over where inspections will go in the future in upstate NY. I am located 20 miles east of Watkins Glen near Ithaca NY and the roads up here are very conducive to spirited driving. None are flat or straight. I would be interested in any actual testing done on the various systems. Certainly in the past actual testing has revealed it's not always the loudest system that produces the most power. Doc makes a valid point regarding internal resonance. I recall riding in a friends 64 Corvette with sidepipes. After a 45 minute ride I was ready to crawl home rather than spend another minute in that car. Seemed everything rumbled and resonated.

George, you should join us NY/NJ guys for one of our rallys. I know it is a little bit of a hike. Maybe we could do a rally out in western jersey to make it easier. I have a house out that way. |

I would like to see some dynometer testing on various systems as is done with other makes. The entire system of choosing a system is tedious at best. For example, I spoke with a guy at Borla that that seemed to hit the nail on the head....it is tough for a mfg. to make a system that satisfies personal demand/requirements. What is loud to one is heaven to the next! I wonder if the testing is eliminated by after market mfg. because the OEM Ferrari exhaust is very efficient? Maybe all we are buying is looks? Sound? Maybe that is more than enough. Running with straight pipes equals less HP. Adam, I am in Bethlehem, Pa. We are close ....maybe we can meet ? I am going to visit the Koenig site next. |

The most beautiful sound I've ever heard is Billy's TR with a Borla and not cats, Accelerating past me on the highway in 4th gear. Che bella. The Tubi looks nicer than the Borla, but sound wasn't quite there on the TR. Can't wait to hear your car Adam. |

George; I have been looking for quite a bit of time for an exhaust for my TR. NJ can be tough in inspection, so I would prefer to keep the cats, but miss the sound of my Father's old Dino and Daytona. While I will never get the same sound, I did want loud from the outside, or with the windows down, yet without needing earplugs with the windows up. The Borla sounds great, but they do not make them anymore, and they sat behind the bumper vs behind the grill. The Stebro is a deeper tinnier sound than the Tubi, The Tubi is too quite at idle, and not bad a open throttle. I found the Koenig a few months ago and found out that they are more popular in Europe than the Tubi and sound and look great. They also offer a RacingLoud option that is not an open pipe, but louder than the regular one. The cost is 3,000 Euro + $200 shipping to NJ. I placed my order today, and will have it in 3 weeks. I will make a sound file, as I wish guys with Tubi's, Borlas ans Stebro's would do just for this reason. |

George, I have a Borla system on my TR (no Cats) and the sound is really awesome, specially at higher RPMs. As compared to a Tubi, the Borla is quieter. Performance-wise, I don't have a clue which one is better. As far as looks, I have not seen the Tubi at close, but my Borla looks pretty good. The previous owner jet-coated the exhaust and the whole thing looks like a bit tone down chrome shine and color. Nevertheless, there were a few postings not long ago that mentioned that Borla has discontinued production of that exhaust. You might want to check with Borla directly, if interested. |

You might want to talk to Adam Goldman on this board as well he is going through the samething with this TR. He's looking at Koenig, I think they have some great products. I have purchased my cat replacement pipes from Walter and they are really high quality as well. With regards to your sound issue however I think you are hoping for something that is impossible there arent to many, if any, exhaust that really increase power enough that you can feel it without creating some kind of interior resonance. I would say that tubi is by far the loudest I have heard in person on a 355, but still IMHO is the best sounding.....heck I am thinking of putting straight pipes on my car!! If I was you personally I would take of your cats because that will yield you probably your biggest power increase, and is cost less than the full muffler system. |

I think you have the no free lunch problem. I have the Tubi precats on my TR and they made the car louder even with the stock muffler still on the car. The Tibi is a clean looking system however. The car accelerates better and the sound at idle is real nice -- get the little popping sounds. |

Can anyone recommed a great sounding exhaust system and one that produces little or no interior resonance, yet produces a power increase? After calling Tubi, Stebro, Ansa, Powereffects.....I am still in a quandry as to what to put on my TR. I can eliminate the cats or leave them in place. It would be nice to hear the finished product prior to buying. Any suggestions??? |
