Michael P. -- I think as long as the total resistance (wire + extender + plug) is in the same ballpark as whatever the stock set-up is you shouldn't have any real difficulty. Do an internet search on "spark plug wire resistance" -- a lot of interesting things come up. |

The type of wire has absolutely nothing to do with the ignition boxes. The boxes only tell the coils when to fire. |

Mitchell, who ever you talked to does not know what he's talking about. I went there and had the guy cut me approx. 16 feet of 7mm Accel wire...he went in the back of the shop and cut it off of a spool..call again and talk to someone who knows what their talking about.. |

I have, but not yet installed, a set of Magnacore 7mm wires made specifically for the 308 series cars. cost around $100 give or take, custom complete with the white plastic wire # tabs just like my OEM. |

I thought for QVs you need a special type of shielding to protect the Marelli ignition boxes. |

Michael I called Vic Hubbard in Hayward, they only have the "universal set" cut to some length and it is only a V-8 set with 9 wires, I need 10 wires. And it is in 8 and 8.5 mm wires only, not 7mm. They do not have a spool of this. I can't believe it, somebody must have this stuff by the miles, someplace. |

Mitchell, Vic Hubbard speed shop on "A" Street in Hayward is where you can get Accel wire in a spool to make your own..I'm about ready to do it myself, but if you've read my posts I just want to make sure everything will work..if they don't have red wire all you really need to do is use the existing red rubber casing that protects your existing wires... |

Is there a place to get a 20-ft roll of red 7mm wires so I can make my own set? The stores around me all sell precut-precrimped set and I don't care for those? Mitchell |

My question is, will Accel resistor wire with red plug extenders (resistor) work with NGKBP6es (non-resistor) plugs. From previous posts I believe that if you use the red plug extenders that have resistors then you should use non-resistor plugs, that part I get, but does the resistor wire throw things off or is everything ok with this combo... |

Thanks Bernie and Steve..here's my plan..The Accel wire comes in a spool. I'm going to remove the red outer casing that is nothing more than a protective casing for the original wires and use it the same way for the new wires that I'm going to cut to length. From there, I'll use the same boots and plug extendors from the originals..I just want to make sure everything will work together. For example, I've got Accel resistance wire with the original plug extendors and NGK BP6es plugs..Any issues? |

Bernie has it right Mike. After I 1st got my 308 a few years ago it had stock 7MM wires and I believe they were the orign's. I went to my local auto parts store and bought standard 7MM resistor wire and made my own set. The wire just unscrews from the extenders and you know how they come out of the cap. So now almost 2 years later I want to dress up the ignition system now that I upgraded to a breakerless ign. and high output coils. So I'm looking for fat wires in Red with low resistance. I'm also trying to take the Fcar extenders out of the picture because of their reliability.I'm sure that todays wire technogoly is far better than the late 1970's.As for the fguy telling you to only use Fwires he's blowing smoke and taking your $'s.I keep you posted. |

Mike, if the wire set up is the same as my 328 a red cover is over wires making them look like something special. In fact this cover is just that.. remove wire from dist., peel back cover at plug end, remove wire from cover, grab contact in rubber cover(part that seals to valve cover and goes on extention to spark plug)pull on plug side. You can remove wire and its end, use wd40 for lube. Take your Accel universal wire kit, cut wire to length place end and bend to same angle as factory. Reverse above and you have the same as the factory. The wire in the factory set is radio type with silicon cover with the additional cover as above. NOTHING SPECIAL, mechanic is misstaken. bernie |

Thanks for the help Steve. I found some 7mm Accel high performance wire with a radio suppression core that I think should work fine, however some high priced mechanic is telling me that only Ferrari wire will work on these cars. I don't know if he feeding me a line of #@*!*@. Upon examining the existing wire, it appears that this stuff should work fine, but this guy is telling me that it will throw off the timing of the car and it just won't work right..to me, resistance wire is resistance wire..is there something that I'm missing..You and I know the cost of new wire..it just seems like a rip. This Accel 7mm wire fits into the cap no problem...no grinding or cutting needed |

I am trying to get info from Accel on their wires that are used in the Honda's , etc. They are 8MM and have extenders on the end that vary in length from 4 to 5 1/2 " . I'm trying to get the various lengths of the extenders to match it up with the stock Fcar ones. These are Sprial wrapped wires with EMI suppression and very low resistance. You can either hand ream out the cap using a 7 1/2MM and then a 8MM reamer or you can "grind" the plug wires to fit into the cap. As soon as Accel gets back to me I'll let you know how I make out. You can get these wires in Blue , Yellow and Red. Looks like about $45 for a set of 4 wires and the coil wire. |

The special thing about the wires that are on your car now are the 1.5" caps that cover and seal the spark plug hole. Other than that, I'm not sure. Mine were only ~$180. |

Can you use any other spark plug wires on a QV or do they have to be Ferrari wires? Will my QV run ok with good Accel 7mm wires? |
