I removed both tanks by removing the Konis and disconnecting the inner upper A-arm connections. There's just enough room. I didn't remove the a-arm or brakes. |

I also have removed both tanks as I am replacing all the hoses on my '79 308 GTS and doing a clutch job, new timing belts , a thorough cleaning and removing the emissions controls. To do it I removed the brake caliper, disc/hub and the upper A arm. I disconnected the lower A arm at the wheel hub and left the shock attached top and bottom. I then moved the hub back towards the rear of the car giving me enough room to get each fuel tank out. Not fun but doable. |

I've done both tanks, in both a GTS and GTB. It's very helpful to remove the brake rotors. The left side is a major PITA. |

When I replaced the heater and brake booster hoses on my 308, I was unable to remove the left side tank completely. There wasn't enough room between the inside of the wheel well and the suspension, even though the suspension was at full droop with the shock/spring assembly removed. I needed about another inch of clearance. I believe you need to disconnect at least one end, of one A-arm, to provide the necessary clearance, but I don't know which one would be best. My best guess would be the inner pivots of the upper A-arm. Bill |

I don't see why it couldn't be done. It looks like it would clear the rotor and suspension on it's way out, should fit. It's a bit of a stickler to get out and will be even moreso than with the engine out, but a little patience and some cursing will get it out. |

I was wondering if the gas tank can be removed with the engine in the car? |
