I had intermittent warning lights on my 88TR as well - I found that not only were the connections to the ECUs dirty, but the connections inside the plastic locking clip to the harness were dirty AND loose. Cleaning and tightening all of those made the problems go away for the time being. If only one side is going off, it's very simple to switch contacts from one ECU to the other to see if the problem follows - if not, use a digital ohmmeter to compare the thermocouple outputs - they should be very similar. |

jim -- my previous thoughts on the 3 steps you should take to get this system working: http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/4621.html Also do a search on "warning light ECU" (all words) to get to some other previous discussion. I wound up having to replace both warning light ECUs on my '91TR, and the SPC shows, I think, 3 versions of ECU/connectors so having a problem in this area is not uncommon IMO. |

Thanks for the advice. The lights come on 1 at a time sometimes, both at the same time at times, sometimes stay on when 1st startd, and sometimes don't come on for weeks. Pretty crazy |

jim -- If the 1-6 and 7-12 warning light self test is working reliably and there's no other wackiness (like the warning lights staying on immediately after cold start-up) you should look into this with some priority. Do the lights always come on together? Also what version (US with KE-Jetronic or something else with K-Jetronic)? If you really do have a problem of excess fuel in the exhaust (either from no ignition or excess fuel delivery) removing the cats does reduce the fire danger (i.e., the extra fuel won't ignite in the exhaust), but it's still a serious problem that should be corrected IMO. |

Jim, The thermocouple sensors on the cats are probably going out. You can disconnect them, or replace them. Best way to check them is to wait till the 1-6 or 7-12 light is lit, and then check with an infrared thermometer to see if the cat is really overtemp. If not then its a bad thermocouple, if the cats are overtemp then its probably an ignition problem on 1 of the 2 banks of cylinders (raw fuel getting into the exhaust system causing an overtemp condition). Had this happen on my car, and turned out it was bad sensors. HTH Scott |

My 87TR wants me to slow down, slow down 1-6, 7-12, often when I am doing 30mph or so. Eventually the lights go out. Anyone with the same problem and any fixes. Also thinking of taking off the cats, any advice for that manuver. Thanks. |
