10mm for the trans drain plug; 12 mm for the indicator plug on the side of the transmission and the fill plug for the clutch housing. Also, the 12mm allen wrench fits the engine oil drain plug. Found the 12mm wrench @ Sears.John |

I just opened my tool chast & checked. The BARGAIN BIN 1/2" allen socket sizes are 12mm,14mm, & 17mm. 12mm is the 'oily one'.

Peter: What I was refering to is the - perhaps bad - assumption that Bill's comment "I may need to refill my clutch housing." meant he wanted to fill up to the top of this fill plug, thus overfilling the entire system. |

Couldn't find what I needed at Sears, but: Most auto parts stores have a couple of bins of "Tool Zone" bargain tools, a $4.99 and $8.99 bin. In one of them there's usually a plastic pack of 3 1/2" drive metric allen wrenches. If I remember right, they're 9,10,& 12mm. Possibly 10,12,& 14mm. Anyway, one of them fits the drain plugs nicely. I think it's the 10MM also, but I just grab the oily one out of the pack(hah!). |

I beleive he is right - I have to check when I get home - nevertheless buy them a Sears Hardward and if they don't work return them - you will have a hard time finding bigger than 10 at most regular hardward stores |

Thank you for the info. Can anyone verify Dave's guess at the wrench sizes ? No offense, Dave--I just want to be sure as I'm about to go out and purchase the wrenches. |

Actually Hans, you do fill the tranny by that top bellhousing plug. You leave the one on the tranny case (beside the diff) open and pour oil in until it spills out from there. Once it finishes spilling out, you have enough (about 4.5 litres worth. This area (the step-down gears) shares the oil from the tranny. The oil-level is just over the passageway between gear box and these step-down gears. Gears are lubricated by the splash action of the lower gear running in this pool of oil. |

I'm just shooting from my bad memory here, but I think they are 10mm & 12mm |

The clutch housing fill plug is probably one of the easiest on the car. Just stand by the left fender, look down on motor at clutch/transfer gear housing. Now look a bit forward and you'll see a big hex-head plug (not allen wrench). The needed socket is about an inch - 24mm???? I'll have to go look at mine. Note that the transfer gears only take a sip of oil, you don't "fill" this housing. If no one gets back to you on the plug allen wrench sizes, I'll be home soon and will look. |

Say, can someone tell me what allen wrench size(s) fit the 2 oil drain plugs and the top plug on the clutch housing on an '85 QV? Also, how does one get at the clutch housing fill plug and get oil into it? Is it necessary to remove the wheelwell liner? I may need to refill my clutch housing. |
