It's Stainless Steel Brake Company. I wrote that ad for them. The tool works well, and uses a 1/2" drive torque wrench and a torque adapter bar to achieve the specified 325 foot pounds.

I have had no problem using this. I would add, I had greased the splines and hub before reassembly. Usually when wheels are that difficult to get off, they have rusted somewhat. A friend who had a similar problem used copious amounts of WD-40 and finally got them loosened. He then cleaned the threads, lubricated them and reassembled. The problem with using the lead hammer is you don't know when to stop. Likely many nuts are tightened well beyond the desired 300 ft lbs. I suggets you spray WD everywhere in the area of the nut to try to have it wick in. Do this a number of times over the course of a few days. Then, don't use an accurate torque wrench but rather a 3/4" drive ratchet with about a 4' pipe on the end of it for torque amplification. Be sure if things "slip" you won't hurt the finish of the car.
Best of luck. It's not an uncommon issue especially with many British sportscars that aren't maintained as well as they should be.

Russ: I bought a torque wrench that goes to 600 pounds....and still have trouble getting my 87 TR wheels off! Have you had success? I bought the Ferrari socket for the wheel nuts...it ran about $200....oh well!

First I apologize for shameless self promotion.

There is a 0-600 ft lbs 3/4" drive torque wrench on Ebay at 1844557459. This has a meter that reads maximum tightness in both directions.
I made offers on two and ended up with both. One is enough, the other is offered.
With this tool I use a standard 3" 3/4" drive SAE socket with a 20 gauge steel insert on the interior. This gives exactly the right dimension for the wheel nut. The socket ran about $28 at the local NAPA. I used structural adhesive to attach the insert. Welding or brazing would also work fine. It's a pretty inexpensive solution to a critical preventive maintence item on the earlier TRs.
Glad to answer any questions.
