For info, it was the speedometer sensor on the gearbox .... R&R'd it and it works fine now :-) |

My 308 did the same thing, it is the sender. Save time, just get a replacement, it screws into the transmision case, and little Molex connector. Easy install. Part is about $135 in the USA, at T'Rutlands. |

You can test it with a meter, preferably an analogue so you can watch the needle sweep. I would also suspect the sensor. |

I read various posts regarding the TR Speedo, it came down to the sending unit.(Probably the same problem you have?) It's a cheap Bosche part, just replace that. Mine just went out and have to get it replaced. |

My '80 308GTS carb's speedo has started working/not working as it likes, as I drive along. I've read the other posts (archive) about this subject, but I've a few questions. I've checked the block connector under the dash, not the problem. I've also stripped and cleaned the block connector next to the gearbox, the one to the sensor. It was dirty, but it's made no difference. What next ? Are there any other block connectors ? How do I test the sensor ? (can I ?) Is the sensor easy to R&R ? Considering it's work / not work nature, could it be the speedo ? (hope not !!!) Is there any way I can test, at the speedo end, whether I'm getting a signal ? (how does it work, is it electrical pulses, are they big enough to measure, etc ?) Any further pointers on what to do next gratefully recieved .... Thanks ! Nev |
