It would be interesting to see a dyno test using different plugs. We dont have emissions here in Florida but even seeing emissions tests with different plugs would be quite interesting. Or perhaps emission tests or dyno tests using different heat ranges or spark plug gaps. Im sure there are many questions on plugs that have never been tested. So many new products have come out since ferrari did there own testing in labs. Its really unfair at this point to say the owners manual says to use type A plug, when 50 new types of plugs have come out since that manual was written.

I think as with a lot of us, we have a preferance or favorite on spark plugs and this shop may also have a preferance. I remember reading past threads and the NGK,s had a lot of praises. Well, now I am waiting for him to replace the warm up regulator and try adjusting the FI again. He also thinks there may be a bad injector but wont be able to tell until he replaces the bad regulator. He said it is now adjusted to burn clean but it runs like s_ _ t.

James,
Try a couple of containers of the high oxygen gas additives to help your car squeeze thru the idle HC test.

All the QV owner's manuals I've seen list Champion & Bosch plug numbers. I'm driving Champions w/no complaints. I believe that plugs from any well known vendor s/b fine as long as you get the heat range & resistance right.

Go for a good basic plug that cross-references to your owner's manual's recommended plugs. Adjust the heat range to your driving if necessary.

If you're like most ferrari owners, you change plugs at every recommended service, then don't waste your money on platinum, iridium, etc. Their primary benefit is long (60K-90K miles) life.

The one exception is if you're having oil fouling. If it persists after trying different heat ranges, Ed Gault claims that the Bosch platinums are more oil fouling resistant than most other plugs.

BTW, I suspect your Euro at least has KL-Jetronic, and probably cats as well. My '82 Euro QV has the base non-lambda K-jetronic w/non-cat Euro exhaust. Luckily it's grandfathered here in MA. However,I'm wondering how close it would come to passing. Anyone had a full Euro QV w/K-Jetronic tested?

I have used a number of different brand plugs in my 77 308, some work well others don't...
But an FYI you might mention to this shop, my car came from the Ferrari factory stock with Champions...
You might try another shop with the right book!

I use Champion plugs on my 308 and they work great. Get the correct heat range and gap. I tried other plugs including platinum and I still use the Champions. Plus they are very inexpensive.

I have used Champions off an on in different makes of cars for years and have never had a problem with them. As long as they are the correct plug recommended for your car then I see no problem.

I brought in my 84 Euro 308 into a shop to have them try to get it to pass the California Emission Test so I can register the car. I got a call from the shop and he still cannot get it adjusted to pass. HC is still high at idle but it would pass the high speed test. Anyways, I am getting a little off track here. He said he tried replacing the spark plugs and said he was suprised that Lake Forrest Sports Car, who did the last service on it, installed Champion Spark Plugs on the car. He said using Champions in a Ferrari was a No No in his book. I was just wondering what some of your opinion was on the use of Champion Spark Plugs in a Ferrari.
