Yes James, I am still in San Carlos for the forseeable future. you can borrow my 4-ring socket for the weekend if you like. Then you can make one for yourself after you see it up close. It is about 1 7/8, I think. |

Mitchell, What size socket would I need to make the four prong ring nut socket or what should the outside diameter of the socket be. Which rear main seal are you refering to that should be replaced. Hey, I just notice we are both in San Carlos. Are you still living there now? |

It is a full day job, providing you do not do any machine work, have additional issues to deal with, and have the right tools. Some people find that removing the rear lower control arm is necessary, that just depends on your particular situation. You will need a special 4 prong ring nut socket that you can buy for $100 or make one for $10 and a bench grinder. Torque wrenches are necessary. Replacing the entire clutch package is a good idea, you will also want to preventatively replace the rear main seal while you are at it. To remove the flywheel, I would use a flywheel lock. Balancing just the flywheel or pressure plate is low on utility since you really need to balance them on the crankshaft to have true balance. By the book, you need to grind the surface of the flywheel. However, it takes more time and probably can skip this task if it is not scored too bad. Changing gear box oil is something you might as well do. Make sure you have all the right gasket and orings before you start. Consult a spare parts manual to find out what you need. Good luck and have loads of fun. |

How long did it take you to change your clutch, assuming it was your first time, you are fairly mechanically inclined and everything went according to plan. Also, what needs to be replace and what special tools are required. I may take on this task on my 84 Euro 308. I am planning on replacing the clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Should the flywheel be resurfaced and does the whole assembly needs to be balanced. |
