Where your cat is has my car a strait pipe ,so no catalytic converter. This is news for me.I called the Ferrari dealer en he told me some 348 as mine have no cat.The technical manual that came with the car does have the cat.In Holland it's allows you to drive whiteout a cat in cars older the 1988 my car date is January 1991 so something isn't the way it should be.The tree's are still green around here so Im not really concerned about it.I hope the checkup from the ingition module will bring out the answer. |

Luuk, the thermal couplers connect to each cat and run to a small ECU for each cat. Those Cat ECUs are mounted in the engine compartment above each cat. Follow the wire from each cat to each ECU and pull them lose from each ECU. Be sure you do not disconnect the O2 sensors as they also connect to each cat. Those ECU shut down a cylinder bank if it determines that the cat is running too hot. They are prone to failure and when they go bad that shut down a bank of cylinders even when the cat is working fine. If the problem goes away, you have either a bad thermal coupler or a bad cat ECU. |

Was the bang you heard a back fire or was it a mechanical bang? My 348 every so often loves to backfire after being hard on the gas then coasting up to a stoplight. The thermocouplers look like bolts going into your catalytic coverter. I think Frank wants you to just detach these and see if the problem persist. I have never done this so he would have to help you more out in this area. How did your plugs look were they a nice healthy color with no wierd coloration to them? |

The problem mostly occurs with a warm engine but not always. Yesterday I was riding in my car and at the moment I went down on speed the ignition gave a loud bang as if the timing was not correct. (This never happened before) It looks like that the problem is more occurring when its warmer outside...?? I will have the ignition module's being check ASAP. Frank, how do I disconnect the thermal couplers from the cat ECU ? I own the car now for about 5 months and drove about 4300 Km with no trouble. I'm new outhere trying to fit in,thanks for the support...!!!!

It sounds more like one of the thermal couplers and/or one of the cat ECUs. Disconnect the thermal couplers from the cat ECUs and see how it runs. |

I would check the ingition module. If you have proven that its not a plug wire or a plug make sure the module is in good shape. Its a fairly simple test and any mechanic should be able to perform it for you. Does the problem always occur on startup or is at low RPM all the time even after driving? |

My 348 TB '92 sometimes runs poor at lo RPM. The car will almost not start, the next day it runs perfectly. I have cleaned the plug cable's put in new plugs and still it seems one of the eight isn't working as it should be. Many Thanks, |
