Of course, years from now, the Ferrari pureist will demand that truely collectable Ferraris MUST have the original engine block (like collectible Corvettes or Dusenbergs) or the value will be far less than a totally original car with the original engine block. Hang onto your original engine, it doesn't matter whether it's a Ferrari, Corvette, Hemi-Cuda, Mustang, or whatever. |

Get a complete 328 engine & transmission from Ted Rutlands and use your 308i engine & transmission as the core... |

Terry, Haven't thought of that approach. I got the impression from my mechanic that even a used engine installed would be more than a rebuild- ~$12K-$15K...and $25K just for a new engine. I'll check it out. THX! |

If the engine is shot... none. The guys at TRutlands told me that they have "a bunch" of good, used 308 engines in stock. Rather than wait to rebuild, why not get a used engine for $5K or so and be driving while you wait for rebuild $$$.

Car is stored in my garage because I can't afford the rebuild right now (worn engine). Mechanic took off the oil filter (filled w/ metallic specs) and taped shut to protect engine from dust/dirt. Okay- my question is, What are the consequences of having the filter off (no oil) while in storage? |
