Ok Taso, My mechanic says this. Check cold start thermo switch. The rough running could be the cold start injectors are activating when they should not and you are running rich at start up. That swtich is at the top of the engine. Easy access. Second, since it is intermittent it could be a warning of this. open your fusebox and pull out, one at a time, the bottom row of white clips and inspect them for burn marks or yellow marks. It is possible here is some arcing. Specifically look on the passenger's side lower white clip which houses the connection for the cold start relay. See if that is burnt or frayed (think its pin #3). Check the fusebox clips first, then if those are Ok go for the thermal switch. Hope this helps. |

TR's aren't that sophisticated (the over-temp indicating stuff has no physical/logical connection to injection/ignition operation) -- but plenty of other things to go haywire unfortunately. |

Sounds a lot like a cat/thermal coupler and/or a cat ECU problem. Disconnect the thermal couplers from the cats and see if the problem goes away. |

I think Paul is part of this board so don't be surprised if you get a reply from him. I am about to go down to my mechanic, so i'll ask and see what he thinks.

Car is running a bit rough when first started. Smoking a bit to much for first 2 or 3 minutes. I know TR's smoke a bit , but this seems a bit excessive. Maybe running too rich? Also, a few times rpm's won't rise as you push the gas. Sort of peeks and won't rev past 3500 to 4000. Problem usually goes away after it warms, but the rpm problem happens every once in a while. The dealership where I purchased car from performed 15k service, a few hundred miles ago. Car runs great, just have these occasional problems. Will probably take car to my Miami mechanic(live in Tampa Bay area)as he is going to make an exhaust system for my car. What about the mechanic in Sarasota,, think his name is Paul Sloan. Anyone do business with him before? |
