There is slop in the hinges, I put one pc. of 20ga under the bottom hinge, took out 3/16" of sag. To get the bad bolts out, I drilled an angled hole ( no way to drill straight in ) drove the easyout in and broke them loose. I have never seen softer bolts than these.

I must correst myself. Bob is right. The door is welded to the hinge and their is a plate that can be removed to reveal 2 hinges/four flat head screws each that screw to the body. Unfortunately 4 of 5mm allen screws stripped at the head. I will try to get new screws and try to remove the bad ones out with some spline type removal device. If I do can anyone offer any suggestions on shimming them, would I put 2 shims on the bottom of the 8 screws or four on the bottom hinge. Wouldn't that make the door hinges bind?

It looks like the gt4 is welded on both sides, door and frame hence the jacked up tech update. I jacked it up some more (ouch) and turned the pins some in the hinges, lubed and adjusted everything and it seems better. I will keep you all informed if I find a soulution.

Thanks

On the 308's, the door part is welded in the only adjustment is on the body side and unless you shim that is in and out only. Tried the floor jack on mine, chickened out not like doing it on a Chevy. A piece of 20ga was good to correct a 3/16" sag.

I've got a bertone mobile (fiat dino coupe) and the doors are fairly easy to adjust. Remove the covers and loosen the bolts that hold the door to the hinge (not the hinge to the body) and move the door up or down as you wish and then retighten. The holes drilled in the door are much larger than the bolts so there is quite a lot of adjustment room. Having an extra pair of hands makes this a lot easier of course. Perhaps the GT4 is the same style hinge?

You can use a floor jack with a 2x4 under the door and jack it up several times in small increments and test fitting the door at each attempt. Open the door about 1/3 open and place the board under the most solid portion of the lower door. I do this all the time on various cars. The Chevy Novas from the 70s had all welded hinges on the door and post and this was the ONLY way one could be aligned. We also had to pull down on some doors that were too high by finding a bunch of heavy guys to hang on the upper door frame and bend it down. This is why you are not allowed in the Service area.

My drivers side door of my 75 gt4 has always been hard to open feeling rather like it is sticking. I have adjusted the strikers to every position and it is not any better. It seems as if the door is sagging slightly on its hinges. When it goes to engage you can see it goes up about 1/8 to 1/4. I have a Ferrari tech update that says when encountering this problem to apply 80 kilograms to the extremity of the door. I started to do this with my floor jack and stopped with visions of the door breaking off at the hinges. Have any of you done this before or had a similar problem that you have corrected???
