Ken, just don't mention FA any where near my wife! She's already looking for a local Ferraristi Anonymous chapter to send me to!

re:JScott: "Isn't that the rare F-16H LMT model?"

Close, It's actually the somewhat less rare (but now out of production) SNAPPER LT-16. Yes, the LT means what you think it does.

BTW,It's got a constantly variable transmission/clutch- a rubber wheel on a driven disc)!!

After spending about 40 hours sandblasting & repainting it with about $50 worth of Russo Corsa, I couldn't help sticking the shields on it for a couple of photos. One of these days I'll get around to putting the factory decals back on to complete the restoration.

BTW, the shields are the resin ones available from your local Ferrari dealer, & lots of other places. I picked up a roll of adhesive backed magnetic sheet when I was at a local craft store looking for (you got it Magoo) RubNBuff.

As for the magnetic ones...you can but the sticker at the dealer, or wherever, then go down to your local Tap Plastics, or something similar, buy a sheet of magnetic material, then trim it to fit the sticker. As far as the "real ones" from Ferrari, if you have a 360, there is a body shop in the San Jose area that has made a tool to properly flush mount the badges, and they do a better job then the factory. The badges sit flush, unlike the factory ones that have a little lip. The tool used is was made only for the 360, as the curve/angle is different on this car than all the others. As far as the 550/456 owners, that is a completly different badge, and therefore different tool would be needed.

Hope this Helps

WHAT TO SHIELD...

Attached is a photo of one of my other vehicles w/ sf shields. It's definitely NOT a racing vehicle... Would like to hear your comments on whether or not they add anything to it's appearance...

(Caution, nomex wear may be needed to read responses to this - heheheh...)

I recently gave it a long over-due strip & repaint. Had a local auto body shop scan my 308 & mix up a computer matched batch. Used this vehicle to perfect my color shooting skills.

Anyway, for your edification & comment:

Ernest,

If you're talking about the Prancing Horse shield on the front quarter panels, I started a post a while back "To Shield or Not to Shield?". I'm sure you'll find a lot of feedback there. In a nutshell, it boiled down to a matter of personal taste. Some even go so far as to have the panels sent off to be flush mounted. The magnetic ones sound like the best option if you are not sure.

Ed is correct, they were on the Ferrari race cars, but as of late Ferrari has made it an option on new street cars in an effort to make more money...
My 308 had them on it when bought the car, but I have since removed them.

Fender badges are traditionally for racing versions only, however some people add them as personal taste. I use magnetic ones that can be removed or applied as wanted.

As a new Ferrari owner - when does the car sport fender badges and when doesn't it. They look great but I've never seen a TR with them.

What's the rules or accepted practice?

Thanks.

Ernest.
