They are used motors that are in good condition. |

The regulators are different but the motors are the same, at least they are on my car. |

AMEN BROTHER CHARLES, AMEN... I spent last Sunday afternoon pulling my passenger window motor/cable out, disassembling it & removing the... (what did Charles call it?) tar that had allegedly been grease at some time. I soaked the pieces in a citrus based parts cleaner for a couple of hours, & then used a brass brush to get the rest off. Really not a bad cleanup at all. I should have just soaked the pieces overnite & probably could have just rinsed them off. However, I wanted to drive the car today. I re-lubed everything with Valvoline DuraBlend (A semi-synthetic CV joint rated grease.) My hope was that the grease's viscosity will remain constant over a wide temp range & it won't dry out anytime soon. I'm not totally convinced this was the right lube. It turned out to be noticably more viscous than I anticipated. However, White Lithium grease seemed to be too light for this application. Also, I sort of remember hearing that Lithium grease tends to dry out & set up(sound familiar...) The passenger window is now noticably faster than my driver's window which I thought was working fine! Guess I'll have to do the driver's side eventually. BOTTOM LINE: AL, Unless your motor(s) have smoked themselves, try cleaning the drive gears. Tar or cosmoline is the best way I can describe what the grease had deteriorated into. On the bench, the motor could barely creep the drive pulley around with the cable hanging free! After cleaning & re-greaseing it almost literally whipped the cable around. Nearly took my thumb off before I could lift the power lead off of the motorcycle battery I was testing with! |

the **&&$% grease in those motors actually hardens to an epoxy like stuff over the years-- it you disassemble and clean, the motors will actually work Charles |

Ed, what is the cost of the window motor? I may need one myself. I was going to try to clean everything up before getting a new one, but am curious as to price. Thanks. |

Are the window motors on 308s interchangeable or is there a driver side motor and a passenger side motor? |
