As David pointed out, would it be that easy to just "plug and chug" or retrofit my old distributorless ignition (DI) parts to the new engine. Since I did not install the existing DI myself, I'm not sure what parts are connected to the engine that's associated with the DI. Any clues would be appreciated?

Why not just remove your distributor and assorted parts and mount them on the new motor, and put the other distributor setup on the core engine you give them back?

You can purchase the Electromotive distributorless ignition unit from $800.- $1200. depending where you get it and installation is fairly simple. There have been many installed on this board and I am sure you can get all the help you need here. I love mine and would never go back to the factory system.

Well, the best way is to go to a Standalone engine management system (eg Electromotive TEC-II) this totally replaces your ECM, and as a bonous, your car will run better, and have a bit more power (as you can tune it to run slightly richer than stochimetric, which emmisions people won't like, but you will.)

Total cost: ~$2-3k.

Best!
Ben.

I plan on swapping engines with a factory rebuilt, but my existing one is modified to a single-line distributor w/ 1/2" plates where the dual-distributors were. I'm sure the factory rebuilt one would not be so. Any insight on this? Parts & labor to convert? Costs? Whole idea was to save on a $12K rebuild of existing engine.
