I have a buzz from idle to about 2200 rpm. I will try to fix it this winter. Does any of you have any further information about this problem?

Ciao

I had the same issue on my '87 328GTS. However, my noise was coming from the air-conditioning lines. Luckily, my mechanic caught it during the 30k major service.

Charles- congrats.

I've been thru this too and car is much more enjoyable without the buzz in the cruising RPM. We did all you did and it did not work. The buzz was still there when we went for a drive even without the fiberglass tube. Curiously, we found some old padding at the bottom of the fender and when we placed it between the ac line and the body--rattle gone! Someone else already went thru this in my car. This is a common 328 problem and I hope you procedure helps others.

Sounds like you are having fun. Great. I am too really learning my TR (not by myself, but I have great mechanic who let's me see and know what's going on -- I don't mind getting a little greasy) and you are not kidding about hand built, not lining up exactly stuff. But half the fun is you can do what you did, fix it yourself for the fun of it..

328 Ferrari Harmonic Buzz Repair

Do any of you have a buzz located over your right shoulder that happens between 3100 and 3600 RPM? Well my 328 has had this buzz since I purchased it almost a year ago. I have fixed several small problems, but after two attempts, the buzz was still there. After reading some messages from people on this Board, I diagnosed it as a vibration coming from either the fiberglass air tube connecting the right-side scoop with the air filter box or the air conditioner lines running in the same vicinity. This weekend I fixed it! It was a lot of work, but now I can listen to the motor without that annoying buzz. This is how I did it.

1. Remove air filter box assembly. You may want to take the lid off first and disconnect the rubber bellows from the air tube, then pull the bottom up and off the injection housing, disconnecting the two hoses from the bottom.

2. Remove the two Phillips screws attaching the air tube at the top.

3. Jack rear of car and put on jack stands.

4. Remove right rear tire and inner fender well covering.

5. Remove the 10mm bolt attaching the air tube in the fender well.

6. Pull the air tube off the metal scoop. This is the principle place that my buzz came from.

7. Remove the air tube from the car. This takes some twisting and turning, but it can be done.

8. Look carefully at the air tube and the surrounding body parts for signs of rubbing. Mine was rubbing at the connection between the air tube and the metal scoop, on the inside of the fender well, and on the air conditioner lines. I put rubber pieces at these places.

9. I made a rubber sleeve to connect the air tube and the scoop out of a thick rubber piece that I found at Home Depot. It was in the plumbing department and was a 6" to 4" connector for a drain. Take your air tube in to make sure it will fit. I trimmed about 3/4 inch off the end of the tube, a little more on the inside. I put the small end of the drain connecter onto the scoop and shoved the tube into the other end. You have to trim the tube so that it doesn=t touch the metal scoop and also will line up to its attachment point.

10. Reassemble and enjoy buzz free motoring! Remember that this is a hand built car and everything won=t line up exactly. This is your chance to make things fit right.

Next, I am going to remove and repair my front lower pan. It has a couple of scrapes. I intend to repair and strengthen it and possibly add a skid plate.
