Thanks for the feedback guys. The body was salvaged from a fire, and there are no blatant signs of collision damage (although I'm not entirely excluding that theory. As far as engine mounting, there is enough frame mount structure to locate the engine wherever it needs to be, and drilling new holes to accept the 328 mount bolts. This would, of course, entail shortening the half-shafts as well, which I'm trying to avoid. Thanks again for the feedback |

I wonder where the problem is... I have seen two 328 to 308 transplants, although 308qv, and neither one said that they had any problems what so ever with line up problems... I wonder if the 288 GTO project was built on a car that was wrecked and the frame is not straight? |

You are going to have to do some fabrication...if your are handy with a welder, no problem, if not, you will have to design the mounts, make a templete, and have them made. Regarding the half shafts, again, fabrication. You will have to relocate the engine so that the half shafts are of equal length, and a driveshaft fabricator can make the shafts for you, using your u joint stubs. What this means, you will have to fabricate new mounts all the way around. Sounds like a neat project....good luck |

Greetings all-does anyone out there have experience with a 328 engine installation in a 308 frame? I purchased a "288 GTO" rebody project (aftermarket wings/bumpers on a '79 308), and am in the process of installing a 328 engine. I purchased a doner 328 ('89)for its drive train, interior, wire harness, and electrical accessories. Everything has gone pretty smooth so far, but I've recently found that only two of the 328 motor mounts line-up with the 308 frame (fwd & aft L/H or fwd & aft R/H). Additionally, the half-shaft's overall length seems to be too long--with the engine laterally positioned to fit one of the half-shafts, the other is approx. 1" too long. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
