I'd guess that it's a case of Ferrari using a slightly incorrect/obsolete ATE drawing in the TR WSM (which is originally a 1984 publication I think). The SPC shows pictorially only the pins with the spring collars like on your '86 (and my '91 is the same). The part numbering isn't very straight-forward (a lot of "ATE", "kit...", etc. entries), but there's no clear indication in the SPC that at such-and-such a SN the pin design changed.

Just replaced my front EBC Green Stuff Pads on the TR (Great pads, no noise, no dust, cheap, better stopping) with the EBC Red Stuff for the track this W/E. I looked in the Service Manual and it shows the two pins through the caliper and pads held by cotter type pins, but mine just has the pins, with no hole in the ends for cotters. Was this a change after the 86? The pins do have a spring type collar on them to prevent them from coming out.
