Thanks everyone. I just _knew_ the 4 litres of Mobil1 engine oil I just paid $70 was the wrong stuff, especially as I only needed 2- itres. Gosh this oil is expensive in London. Simon |

Simon, There is a 75-90wt gear lube by Mobil 1 that is a synthetic. A lot of guys on the chat line have used it and had great results. I for one find it to be much easier shifting in my 308. The rear differential of your car has the limited slip feature also. More than likely the clutches are causing the chattering. Drain the old diff. lube and add the Mobil 1 75-90wt. synthetic gear lube especially for limited slip rears. I would bet your problem will go away. Found at all auto stores. |

I asked here (May 2002) about a vibration from the diffential/back-axle unit on my 400 at take off. Many of you suggested I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Everyone, epsecially Magoo, is this Mobil 1 Synthetic the same oil that you would use in an engine or is this a different type of Mobil 1 synthetic for the differential/back-axle. I've bought some 0W-40 Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil but just wanted to check that this was correct to use beforehand. The manual says AGIP SAE 85W90 for the back-axle and the car was built long before synthetic oils were around. It just sesm wrong to me to put engine oil in a back-axle. What else can I use in the back-axle?
