Thanks Verell. I have checked with my garage. He assured me that the clamps are tight and it's safe but that we need to replace those bushings because they are worn out. I'll contact superformance ASAP.
Thanks again.

Peter, re:"My steering rack is moving sideways"

This is a real 'no-no', & potentially dangerous!

GET IT LOOKED AT/FIXED QUICKLY!! IT COULD KILL YOU!
Either, your bushings need replacing, or else the bushing clamps are coming loose. Either way, get it fixed quickly. If the clamps come loose, you could suddenly loose most/all steering control!!

Bushings shouldn't be hard to replace. I'd try
Superformance in the UK, they may have high perf. bushings: www.superformance.co.uk

Hi all.
My steering rack is moving sideways when turning the wheel. It gives a soft feeling for the first movement of the wheel but no play. Is this normal? I believe that the bushings are either to soft or worn out. Do any of you know if there are harder bushings for the 328 steering rack/chassis mounting to get. Is the 328 steering rack the same as for the 308?

Ciao

Good call Steve. Greg, you should be able to see u-joints near and/or right above the pedals. This assumes you can contort your body like a pretzel.

Check the splined "squeeze" connection (held by the bolt, item 8, on TAV 36 in the SPC) at the input to the steering rack (I found this loose on my ex-'78) and your steering column u-joints for play before assuming the problem is in the steering rack.

I have noticed, what I think to be too much play in my 78' 308 steering. It is about 1-1 1/2 inches to either side. I was curious to know if anyone rebuilds 308 steering racks or should I just buy a new rack? How much is a new rack and where is the best place to find one? Thanks.
