You're welcome, Bill. The flaps open and close audibly. Check to see if the cables are properly attached and adjusted. And yes, as Steve said, mice might have moved some material aound in the ducting. Barry |

Bill depending on if the car has been stored lets say during the winter you may have a MICE problem. When I got my 308 which was stored winters I found insulation material up under the dash as well as near the heater ducts in the spare tire area. You may have stuff in the ducts from the heater box into the cockpit. Also as an outside chance your heater cores (in the black box with the filter) may be pluged with debris. You can either blow compressed air through them or take them out to clean them. My 2 cents |

Thanks , Barry--I did change the filters and no change was detected. I need to check to see if the internal flaps are working right. i'm sure that's the problem as the air flows fine up until the boxes. |

Bill, It sounds like the filters in the boxes need to be changed. This diagram should help you as well, Matt. Barry
#11 is the hose from the A/C blower |

Speaking of all the levers and cables, how hard is it to re-attach a cable to a lever in the console? The passenger side heater box adjustment cable is disconnected from the lever under the console. I haven't tried dealing with it because there's usually no one sitting in that seat, and I just periodically adjust it at the heater box. -Matt |

Well, I disconnected the hoses from the boxes, turned on the fans and found that there is actually a pretty strong airflow from the fans to the boxes. So, my problem seems to be from the boxes to the cockpit. As I mentioned, the air temp control levers work smoothly and it sounds like the internal flaps are working . Also, while testing the fans, I was able to stick my hand right into the dash vents and there is a very mild trickle of air flowing with the fans on high. Maybe this is normal for these cars, but it doesn't seem right. Any other thoughts on what might be going on from the boxes to the interior vents? |

K Mart sells the gray poly filter material in their A/C filter dept.. Just cut and install. About $3 bucks. |

it's been mentioned before, but without specifics that I recall. the filter material in the airboxes is 1/4" thick polyurethane foam. you can get it from home stores like the home depot (frostking F1524). it's used in window/wall unit air conditioners, and you just cut out the size you need using one of the airbox shrouds as a template (or the original filter if it still exists). this stuff is exactly like what came out of an '80 308, and it's absurdly cheap. you get enough to do at least two cars, so you can split the costs with a friend and each pay 50 cents :-) |

That's where you are going to find your leaves. Ferrari used to have tubes running to the blower motors from the front of the car. The cars kept sucking crap into them so Ferrari sent out a SB to remove them. |

The black boxes are small heat exchangers that are connected to the coolant system. There are filters in front of the heaters behind a plastic shroud. The shroud snaps on. I had to remove a hold down screw at the bottom of the heater box to get the shroud of the get at the filters. Not a hard project. Good luck. John |

Thanks, guys--I'll check it out soon and get back to you. Re: the fan, i do hear it when I turn it on, so, there probably is a blockage somewhere. I did take that plastic cover ( over the brake reservoir) off once before just to see what was there and I did notice that the control cables seemed to work well. I assume that the filters are in those black boxes on each side of the car. How does one open them up? I didn't notice any screws or clips on them, upon cursory glance. |

Yes I have a 1984 308 QV and when I first bought a year ago mine did the same. The dealer told me he adjusted the cables under spare tire plastic cowel cover. I have taken this cover off and looked at controls very easy to adjust. |

Either your blower motors are not working or the filters are blocked or both. Do you hear fans turn on when you turn on the fan switch? (not the a/c fan switch) If so and you are not getting air thru, pull off the fiberglass moulding that surrounds the spare tire and check the filters. I bet when you pull off the flex tubes you'll find a double handfull of leaves in there. If your blowers are shot let me know. I have a used right side blower motor. This is an easy project. All you need to check and replace any of these parts is a screwdriver and about an hour. Very easy. |

I just noticed that I get absolutely no fresh air flow through the vents on my '85 308. This is true no matter were the slide settings are or if the fan is on or not. The only way I get air into the cockpit is to use the ac. When that's on, the cold air flows through the center and 3 top-of the-dash circular vents. I never feel anything coming through the under- dash vents . Any thoughts about this? |
