The transfer gears can be noisy if installed opposite to their original orientation. Check inside the transfer cover, also was oil properly introduced after the clutch? |

Mike, if the noise is in neutral, (as well as in gear, moving) that would narrow it down some . Kinda hard to tell with the limited info. I would doubt very seriously that synchros are the problem, as they rotate with the shafts/ gears. A bad one would show up in noisy shifting long before it made noise at an idle. Throwout bearing might very well be it. However, do not rule out the transfer gears. I would suggest having it put up on a lift, (carefully of course) and run it at an idle. If you do not have a mechanics stethoscope, (preferred, as it is safer to work with a probe), the old hose up to the ear will help isolate it. Try first listening to it at an idle on the ground. |

I also would guess it is the throw out bearing. Does it do it when you hold the clutch in too? If so then it probably is the throw out bearing. |

our 1983 ferrari 308 is making noises when you let the clutch out and we cant figure out what is causing the noise. we think it might be the synchros. if u have any input please help and also place an estimated cost as to what the replacement might cost. thanks. |
