Terry the 1 brown wire is the tach wire and it hooks up to the NEG. side of the coil (either coil is fine). The remaining 2 wires come from the starter relay and they are "bi-pass" wires that are hot when the starter is engaged . This puts +12V to the coils until the engine fires and you release the key. When you do this you bi-pass the resistors and get max spark. When you release the key you go through the resisters and get around +9V to the coils.I hooked these up with the other 2 wires so that you don't need to modify the starter circuit. If you don't gang these together the car won't start.

I am installing the single distributor and MSD that I got from Ben Millermon. Like a moron, when I took the old coils and distributor off, I did not make notes on the wiring. I figured the wiring diagram in the owners manual would have details and/or the new distributor would have detailed wiring.

Well, I cannot read the diagram in the manual and My car is different from Bens so his diagram does not include all the details.

I have it all wired up, but there are 3 wires that I am stuck on. The MSD and new coil are wired in, but I have 3 harness wires that I believe went to the old coils left over. There were 5 wires bundled together that went to the 2 coils and ballast resistors on the original setup. 2 black, 2 red and 1 solid brown. The black wires are hot with the ignition switch. The red wires and brown are not hot. I am pretty certain these are related to the tach, but not positive.

Anyone know what these wires are and how the tach is wired in the stock '77 308 GTB setup? Im going to be firing the thing up tomorrow and setting the timing, but I need the tach. I think the red wires go to the positive coil terminal and another wire mounting to the same post goes to the distributor. I think the brown is a ground, but not sure. Any help is appreciated!
