181. they may be a like 5cm too long, but im advanced enough to handle longer skis, as intermediates tend to have shorter ones. I have enough legs to turn them, and they will be faster than shorter skis.

I went for K2 Escape 4500's. they didnt have the Axis X in my size, and im not a real "expert" yet, even though skiing feels as natural as walking. The ones i got are advanced intermediate. they should lsat me a solid 8 years. I got those and marker 6.2 bindings for $400, i would never find a better deal. The skis are usually $450 and the bindings are usually over 200. i still gotta go back for pants. they've got pretty good deals down there.
chris- i was gonna go with salomon pilots, but i heard some not-so-great things about them. They arent easy to turn. a trait like that would end up getting me hurt. i recomend that anyone who needs ski/snowboard stuff to go there. $200 jackets are $99, deals like that. the only catch is it's lsat years stuff which could be a problem becasue we all know how much jacket technology changes in one year, more than computers, etc.

I hear good things about the K2 Axis line. Also the Salomon Crossmax 9 got a great review in the Ski Magazine buyers guide. On Sunday, I just bought the Atomic C9.18's. I would consider myself a hard charging intermediate. Black diamonds yes, moguls yes, but I prefer the shorter runs because at age 40, I don't have the endurance I used to.

Last spring, at Heavenly Valley in Tahoe, on day 1, I skied the Atomic 9.18 while it snowed, on day 2, I skied Rossignol Bandits while it was perfectly groomed in the morning and got cut up in the afternoon, and on day 3, Salomon Crossmax 8 while it melted. The Atomics didn't float that well in the powder, but they sure can turn easy. The Bandits would have been best while it snowed, but were more difficult to turn shrap on groomed than the Atomic. The Salomons did great on the moguls and while I don't know east coast winters, they do very well in Tahoe and have nothing bad to say about them. (also, they have the best graphics short of the atomic race skis!)

Ultimately, I went for the Atomics. So much good press about that ski. I don't think it has ever received a bad review. Since powder days are rare for you (and me, too), I would consider the Atomics (C9 or C11) or the Salomons in addition to the K2.

Tomorrow im going to Giants stadium to the Princeton ski shop sale. everyhting is 70% off, so i cant pass up this opportunity to pick up a pair of new skis. Im a lower lever expert. Im definately not an intermediate, but i wouldnt call myself an expert. Im trying to let my brain do the shopping, not my ego. I was thinking that K2 Axis X's would be a good choice. I thought that salomon pilots were good, but ive hear bat things about them. In the northeast we have alot of ice though. You guys from out west would get killed over here. So anyway, what do all you skiers have and what conditions do you ski in. I need skis that are fast, but short and cut right to turn sharp and handle moguls. theres also tha occasional powder we are treated to here, if you can get there before its either 1.) groomed or 2.) cut up by other people.
