Hi Jim, The Iguana was the one on the way downtown from the airport. I think our route to Carmel in August will go near or though Salt Lake City. Looking forward to so good Mole. There are okay places here in Dallas, but none that compare. Rodney |

The Red Iguana rules.. (and it's only 10 min away) There is also the Blue Iguana.. same food, two different locations. Next time you're in SLC we should hook up as I've also never found a place w/ better Mole Amarillo. (I love yellow mole's on poultry) Habanero's are yummy. The key is to get thru the burn and they have an apricot like flavor. It's an acquired sort of sadism. Best way is to grill them, split out the seeds add a little lime juice and then down the hatch. One good sized Hab (w/ seeds) can make an entire POT of Chili unpalatable for a lot of people who think a commercial Jalapeno is "spicy". |

Mexican Food in Dallas now let me give you a couple nice suggestions. Two favorites: Cantina Laredo- Addison Beltway/Beltline (You can often find me here Friday nights dinner/Margarita/Cigar. Another one in Dallas Royal/Preston. Javiers- Real nice hidden in HP off Mckninny Ave. Real nice atmosephere with a great cigar bare where the upper class ladies of HP hang or start the night. Both are well worth it but get reservations for Javiers or wait an hour and have a Mararita.

Can anybody really eat a whole habanero pepper? I sliced up half a habanero pepper and mixed it into a bowl of spanish rice and the whole experience was like trying to eat a bowl of nitric acid! Of course I never gave up any ground and eventually beat the pepper! Those habaneros make a jalapeno look like a popcicle!

I still have to stick with the Iguana place in Salt Lake City. I make a habit of trying Mexican restaurants were I travel. Yes I have even eaten Mexican food in London. But I have never found food that compares, especially their Mole~ Sauce. Hey Steve we will need to try some Mexican food in Vegas.. Rodney |

Yah how horrible real beef instead of ground generic stuff ;) We have some excellent food here in Dallas, but to this day the best Mexican I have ever.... had is in Salt Lake City. As I remember the place was named the turquise Iganua or something similiar. It's safe before 8:30 PM or so. After that gang members take over, not a real good idea to hang out.. Rodney |

Years ago, we had a REAL (as opposed to Taco Bell, etc.) Mexican restuarant open here. I asked a co-worker how he liked it. "It's TERRIBLE! They put roast beef in the burritos instead of hamburger." Oh, well. |

Not so much of a dive, but there's a great Baja-mexican restaurant in the Bellevue/Overlake area (in WA) called Fundidos. They have the best fish tacos I have ever had. I figured I was going there too much when the owner had my order written up before I was through the door....they are over by the Microsoft campus, right by the bicycle store and Packaging Specialties. |

There are very few places in the Northeast to find real Mexican or Tex-mex food.I usually have to wait for a trip west to satisfy my craving. We finally found one, in Elmsford, between Tarrytown and White Plains (i say this for the benefit of those who live nearby); it is basically an old train car diner that was taken over by a spanish woman whose husband owns the nearby carwash. Real, basic, tasty stuff, homemade, VFG (very few gringos) and dirt cheap. I don't look in the kitchen either. |

When you reach an authentic Mexican food restaurant, it will be just like Rob describes - nothing in English, and they serve rice water too. I love mexican food, but TexMex, like Chuys is preferred. |

I like everything except blue cheese dressing and coconut. Really like Mexican, Italian (obviously), Chinese (all versions), Korean, Japanese, German, French, I like to eat! We have several Mexican restaurants here and a colleague of mine's wife owns an Chinese restaurant. |

I forgot the name of it, but in South Dallas somewhere I went with a group to an authentic Mexican place. Nothing was in English and we were the only Americans there. It was good, but I prefer ordinary Americanized Tex-Mex. |

Anyone out there love mexican food? We have an authentic Mexican place in my town called El Camino that is SO damn good, I have never had anything that even came close to the taste of this food in all of my travels. You don't want to look in the kitchen, just eat your damn food and enjoy it for what it is. Anyone have one of these "dives" by them? |
