Cruising the streets of a very large Calif city in the only car I've driven that drew more attention than my F-car...a Cop car.

Throwing one of mom's old purses in the middle of the road with a fish line tied to it. This is one of the best gags of all time.

Hey Jimpo, nice to see that someone else actually purchased an XR4Ti. I often dreamed of importing a Sierra Cosworth to replace it but decided that the hassle was too great. Maybe I can find a lower mileage one running around Europe now that they are older...

Visit to Road America for the 500 mile IMSA race. Lowenbrau 962 GTP of Bell/ Robinson, Corvette GTP of Bundy/ Van Der Merwe, Nissan GTP of EFR/ Haywood, Roush GTO Mustang of Bruce Jenner, Kendal at 20 years old in his RX7 GTU, Baldwin in his carbon fiber Camaro, great stuff.

I just watched the '86 Road America IMSA 500 on tape last year. Diamond P sports with Brock Yates. If only Grand Am and ALMS could merge today.

I was only fourteen at the time. But its odd you mention 1987 or any other year. At times I'll look at a coin and ask everyone around me what they know or were doing in that particular year.

But anyways, at 14, it was a year before I got into guitars, several years before I got into cars. I was one of those skateboarders, almost to the point of being sponsored outside of Houston. Oh well. A car accident made that decision a no go less than a year later.

Oh, I'm sure you have a reason for keeping it this long. I can't bring myself to buy one, not because of the cheap cost, but 29 years old out there on a freestyle bike. I looked very awkard even back then being 6'1". Some tricks the height helped, others it didn't. My 5 foot 2 friend could do no handed surfers and bar stands for hundreds of yards. However, I had the advantage on tricks you had to move and reach around. Next time I'm back in Salina I'll scan the picture of me in the year book doing a can can lawnmower, jean jacket, nappy hair, big glasses and all. Oh, why in the heck would I want to go back to those days.

Rob,

I still have my Haro bike sitting in my basement. It's got the baby blue paint job that fades to chromemoly frame. It has white Skyway Tuff II wheels on it with blue tires.
Pretty funky for those days
It's yours for free if you pay for the shipping.

James, I had the Haro FST, had friends with the Haro Sport and Haro Master. I was in the bike store the other day and they had several Haro's with gyro's, pegs and all. I want to buy one, they've actually come down in price since '87. I see all the kids today with pegs and gyros, but they don't know the first thing about freestyling. The half pipe and skate park stuff is so big now. We were always being run off and no one was making money. Now every town has huge skate parks and many of those guys are millionaires.

In 87 I'd just bought my Merkur XR4Ti. I loved that car, but no one else did. A coworker of mine used to always ask about my XRATI (pronounced it ZERATI). I couldn't figure how the hell he came up with that until years later I sat behind one at a stop light. I noticed the "4" could've been mistaken for an "A". They probably would've sold more of them if they'd named it the XRATI.

In 87 I was a Freshman at Seton Hall University wishing that I was playing the drums for Van Halen or making it big playing the drums in my local band. It was actually the year I packed in my baseball dreams because you had guys like Mo Vaughn, Craig Biggio, John Valentin, etc...hitting 500 foot bombs and throwing the ball like they were firing an M-16.
I had a 68 Firebird Black/Black.

VISION STREET WEAR!!!
You are an old guy Rob!

I was cruising the town on my Vision "Gator" or my Santa Cruz "Jeff Grosso pro model" skate board. Later on I picked up freestyle bmx so I bought a Haro "Team Master" bike and started doing bunny hops and cherry pickers to impress the girlies.

OK, I'll play. 13 years old, 8th grade. Hobbies were golf and freestyling (stunt bike riding). Could care less about cars, but had my wall and desk covered with Ferrari stuff. Really starting to love the girls, although only had a few awkward girl friends. I was awkward myself at the same 6' 1", but 140 lbs instead of 195. Imagine size 12 red Vision Street Wear with rolled up blue jean bottoms and a "Pepsi" long sleeve shirt. As Nika would say "Ohh Gawd"

I was a sophomore at the University of Georgia, in a fraternity and doing the party thing at a speed I cannot fathom looking back. I was also dealing in and restoring antique sportscars, driving a '67 Jaguar E-Type roadster as my daily. I lived in the fraternity house and did too much drugs and not enough studying. Oh well... I still graduated and last I checked the degree on the wall does not include a GPA annotation ;)

Athens GA in the late 80's was a happening place. Used to go see REM play incognito at the 40 watt club along with tons of other great local bands. Oh and wimmen.... southern girls are tough to beat. I look back and smile, but also think in many ways what a lunatic I was. Young and stupid, oh well. :-)

In 1987 i was 3 freakin years old! how did you get your car suspended? thats a great story. one of my freiends in a car chase with the security guard (they didnt have one last year when i was there) when he was leaving for lunch. his 92 celica 5spd easily outran the school district's early 90's olds station waggon, lol. i have no memories form 1987. Actually, i think i vaguely remeber some things, but not many at all. why dont we remeber stuff when we are really young?

I was a senior in high school "living on a prayer" if you catch my reference! Driving a gold 78 T/A with built 400 4spd etc. Spending my nonschool time working, partying and chasing this one girl whom I never did catch. My claim to fame was I was the first person in my schools history to get their car suspended from school.

I was learning that I was getting too old to race. Had just gotten an ex-works ducati, and thought I could win another championship. Fell at least 5 times that year, broke a couple of bones, never did decide to quit, too me another 4 years to finally get the message.

In Grade 5. Either riding my BMX bike, or just hanging out with my buddies after school. Yeah, I remember 80's rock, I get nostalgic about it too, I still prefer it to todays music...

Someone in North Carolina was driving my GT4 around during that time...

I had a 57 chevy, long hair, and a two-pack habit. I still can't believe I'm still alive.

Watching a VH1 show on the 80's. Metal, Poison, Motley Crue big hair rock n roll, 21 Jump Street. I was 17 and a senior in high school. I seriously miss that feeling and those days. Getting old and nostalgic. Al Bundy at Polk High....thats me....

What do you miss about your glory days? Or are you in your glory days now?
