Find a skill, trade, craft that you like, and/or have an aptitude for, and work/practice until you are better at it than everybody else.

If not, find a person, or people, who have accomplished the above and ingratiate yourself to them until you are in a postiion to ride their gravy train.

If not, find a person, or people, who have accomplished the above and sue them.

If not, find a person, or people, who have accomplished the above and steal from them (the non-government-sanctioned equivalent to the aforementioned).

Luck is nice yet I wouldn't count on it. It bothers me when someone I haven't seen in a while says, "Looks like things have gone your way", etc...I beg to differ. I am a relentless competitor and will not allow myself to fail. I have at times, literally had three full time jobs and believe you must have a work ethic that is unmatched to put the odds in your favor.
There's a great line in the movie Vanilla Sky..."every moment that passes is another moment you could have changed your life"...you just have to do it. I know a buddy of mine that delivered pizzas for 10 years and finally said screw this and now recently is an attorney.
Also NEVER worry about keeping up with Jones', always live well below your means and debt free.

Kind regards,

TTG

I don't think it's luck. I think it's karma, either way you won't know your future, so be happy with what you have, stride for your goal's but don't be upset with your life. IT'S ALL GOOD!

Jordan, first of all, this isn't rude or offensive in anyway, and secondly, the key to saving money is this:
Live with me for a week, then do everything i DON'T and don't do anything i DO. You'll be wealthy beyond your dreams within a few years...

Oh, and like Doody said, don't do something you don't like...

doody is right that luck plays a big part of it. unfortunately, there are a lot of people that work hard that never become rich (granted, many don't care about money but even those that do). but rarely does someone who doesn't work hard make it. so, like most things, play the odds and study hard and work hard while you're young and you'll have the best chance at gaining material wealth.

i was a pretty good student in college, average student in grad school and i bought my first 355 when i was 27 (2 years out of school). i traded it in a year later for a 360 F1 and just traded that in for another new 360 (6 speed) that i had ordered. did i "deserve" it? hell no, many many people worked harder and studied harder but i got a bit lucky on landing my job which allowed me to buy these toys.

studying is important but interpersonal skills are a must as well. good luck and, if you'd like to take some advice from a stranger, don't blow all your money on a car. be patient and don't get greedy.

i'm sure you know the saying, bulls make money, bears make money, but pigs ALWAYS get slaughtered!!!

study hard. never stop learning.

choose work which you can be truly completely absolutely passionate about.

think big.

work your ass off.

and cross your fingers - luck is a factor.

Obviously a lot of us here are wealthy individuals and we all come from diverse professions and backgrounds.

How have you guys made your wealth? I am still young but I am trying to plan out my future as far as finnances and one of my personal goals is to be fairly wealthy. Enough so that, over time, I can buy a nice house, a nice Ferrari, and a good bass ($50k) without having to live on food stamps :-)

Are there any sort of tips or secrets that you guys can offer me as far as money, bank accounts, stocks, or just anything that might help? My profession (classical musician) is hardly high paying comparitively, so I am looking for some extra ways to improve my income...I come from a fairly higher up middle class family, so I will always be able to live comfortably, but I just want to be able to endulge in some of my more expensive passions...like Ferraris :-) Right now I am at the point where I do have enough cash in the bank to buy a cheap 308, but it would bankrupt me soon after :-(

I hope this post isn't too offensive in any way, I am just trying to learn as much about money as I can to ensure my success in the future. If you guys do think this is too personal or rude, then please forgive me and hopefully someone will delete the thread!

Thanks
