My golf history:

Active player for about 30 years, up until recently twice a week or so. Been 28 handicap most of that time. Took lessons from 5 different pros:

1) - He became hard core alcoholic soon after giving me a lesson.
2) - Committed suicide a couple of weeks after my last lesson.
3) thru 5) - All got fired within a month or two after giving me lessons.

Pro #4 had my handicap down to 25, but it went back up to 28 after pro #5.

Pro #5 several years ago entered me (without my knowledge) in the Golf Digest World's Worst Golfer contest. Time constraints prevented me from participating.

Currently not playing much, as I can't use anything longer than a 6 iron and expect it to be +/- 2 fairways away. Chances of either left or right are about equal. I once hit a drive that landed 4 fairways to my right. Another drive made a complete circle to the left - boomerang fashion, landing near the tee. (Duck hook?)

I putt fairly well, tho.

I was on the golf team back in high school, but haven't swung the clubs much in the last 10 years.

Hans,
Maybe you are right! Golf can be the start of some bad habits, but its all in good fun!

Golf relaxing????? I've always thought that it's the very best way to perfect your drinking and swearing.

I was a golf teaching pro for 8 years (also did a golf TV show for the last 3 yrs).

Had to give it up because your body wears down from playing golf 6 days a week after so many years.

It was a nice 8 year long vacation though.

Let me just say "I ATTEMPT TO PLAY GOLF".

I like the game but the best part of golf is on the 19th hole.... :-)

I recommend that if you've never played golf, then don't start, if you have, then quit! Most on here have heard my story again, so I won't repeat. You can search for it if you wish. Golf sucks!

I used to play every weekend during the spring, summer, and fall. Now I only get to play like once a month. Golf is sweet. Golf carts are also very sweet, especially since we always get real early tee times (6:30am - 7:30am) and the ground still has dew on it.

I play once or twice a week. No problems with bag storage as I can put two carry bags in the trunk.

I recommend it to virtually anyone who wishes to relax and have a good time. To me it is the MOST relaxing thing knowing that whenever I step on the first tee all I have to worry about is hitting a white ball for the next four hours.

DES, some good advice is this: When you get on the course, forget about trying to correct your swing, just go with the flow and play the game.

John, i don't play (never played a round in my life) but i sure as hell like going to the range... My biggest problem is- all my shots are like republican extremists- they're waaaaaay to the right...
My boss said he'd take me out and we'd round the holes, so i'm waiting for that...

I play mostly over at English Turn in New Orleans. Its a Nicklaus course thats plays host to a PGA Tour event every year. Tough if you miss the greens! I just got back from a 2 year break from golf and have the ol' handicap down to about a 6 now.

Just wondering how many of us F-chatters tee it up. Must be funny letting the golf bag ride passenger in the F-car :-)

How often do you get the chance to play?
