Fred, There are internet services that can provide your life history if you have the VIN --- SS#, DL#, address, assets, previous addresses & wives, relatives and neighbors, criminal history, etc. It points to a specific person(thru a tracked item) just like your SS#. Of course not everyone checks this or has an interest in this but it can be done.... | ||

I'm not posting mine anymore. To many people trying to sign up to owners sites,etc.that arent owners.No big deal but why bother.If I need to give a vin to someone I'll do it through email. | ||

Fred, I am guessing you gave yours out..... Carfaxes and doing a title searh are about it. Pretty much usless information unless you need it. They can get some of the same information from you plates. | ||

It's pretty easy to get just by looking in the window. I really don't see what can be done with them except to fake some sort of application or to commit ebay fraud. | ||

Like lic. plates, who cares. Every time you drive the car, hundreds see your plate and every time you park it, someone can look at the vin# through the window. These people could even follow you home. So who cares if somebody across the country sees a pic of your plate or knows the Vin#? | ||

When selling a car, it seems everyone requests the VIN# over the phone before even looking at the car. I also see them posted on E-bay. I understand people run car-fax reports. However, what else do people do with them? What other information can be gathered? Lastly, is it safe to give it out to everyone? |
