E30 BMW 325es coupe. There everywhere & very low priced now. You can find some around $1500.00. I also like the idea of Porsche 944 & 1st gen. RX7. I must argree with Rob, you will have more fun with your 328. Are you driving @ TWS or MSR? |

Porsche's will be costly! We are putting together a 76 BMW 2002, a great car for little money to run. The RX7 also would be a excellent idea. |

I say get the RX7. Then you can join Rob in his series if you decide you want to race. What's DE? Driver Education? Dopey Engineering? Drinking Excessively? |

Thanks for the ideas. I did look at a SM for other reasons, but the pricing I saw was close to 5 figures -- definitely higher than I want to go now. The 944 sounds interesting, as does the 3 series BMW. Any other ideas? Thanks |

Get a 944. I've got the turbo version and have used it as a DE car since 1996. Handling is excellent. You'll learn more with the slower car. |

I'd second the idea of a spec miata. if you check out specmiata.com you can see what its all about and what people shell out for an economical race car. typically they average putting in 7-8K after the loaner to get it competitive. otherwise.. start picking up grassroots motorsport magazine - they have buyer guides for budget racers in various dollar amounts. Otherwise, if you want something dirt cheap that can go quite fast - look at getting a CRX. |

I second the idea for the 944...there seems to be a big field for that car. |

Old BMW 3-series works well for this. The E30 325s can be had for next to nothing...If you feel like spending a bit more, 8-9k will get you a heavily used E30 M3. |

You know what I think Tillman, you also need to get the 328 out there too. |

How about a DES car...? That's where you spend an obscene amount of money on a hardcore exotic and let ME drive it on the course... |

Greetings, A buddy and me have decided to take some DE classes this coming year such as the Drivers' Edge events. We'd like to pick up a car specifically for these type events. Here's the requirements 1) Cheap! If we stuff it into a wall or roll it, it should be cheap enough to walk away from without hurting too much. Let's call it $3000 or so at the upper limit. 2) Rear wheel drive 3) Manual transmission, naturally 4) It doesn't need to be fast, but it should handle well. 5) Hardtop 6) Did I mention cheap? The first things that pop to mind are the 1st generation RX-7 and the Porsche 924. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks |
