Berkely is freezing col & full of wierdos Stanford is nice but its less than a mile from the hood so it can be dangerous. I'd go to UCLA thats where Playboy gets most of its playmates from |

Thanks for all the info! I doubt I'll get accepted into Stanford. From what I have read, they accept around 18 of the annual 2400+ applications for transfer that they get. While I'm very strong in terms of GPA, and while I have very decent extracurricular stuff (founded a Veteran's Organization, VP of Student Body, Debate Team, Habitat for Humanity), I just doubt that I'll be one of the 18 lucky ones. This doesn't bother me too much, as I did look at the Berkely campus while I was in NorCal, and I was truly inspired. Beautiful campus; the stream running through the middle of the grounds, the tiny glens and small patches of forest. The 100+ year old marble buildings, the history, etc etc. Truly beautiful. I'm a very conservative guy, but I can easily manage the liberal environment. I really lke UCLA's campus as well. I just don't know! Choices, choices, choices. As for money, let's thank Uncle Sam for the nifty school loans! I've also got a few years of the GI Bill left, but that will hardly cut it at Stanford. I'll keep you all posted, and thanks a lot for the info! |

If you're planning on going to Law School after, then go to the one that you prefer. Academically, they are rated about the same when you apply to law school. Their laws schools are about the same, although in my humble opinion Boalt is the better law school over UCLA and Stanford. If you saw Berkeley, and you like an Urban environment, I think that would be a great school. If you agree with Martin, then you have to go to UCLA, but if you do, don't plan on a good Law School. Another note after reading Kyle's post. Stanford (nor any top 15 University for that matter) does not offer scholarships to transfers so be prepared to pay $36,000+ from your pocket (loans, your own source you name it). |

I would suggest Stanford. But I'm sure you already know this; transfering into that school is more difficult than applying as a Senior from High-School. Best of luck, if you get in I'm sure you'll enjoy "The Farm" it is amazingly beautiful. |

I had a friend drop out of Stanford because he felt it had "nothing further to offer him". He then went on a 4 year acid drug binge, thought a motorcycle gang called the mongrels was chasing him and has since cleaned up and is in medical school in virginia or somewhere out east working with prisoners as a psychologist or something like that. |

First off - You will not lose by going to ANY of those univeristies.... they're all world class - and I mean that. I think INTERNATIONALLY, Stanford *JUST* about edges it with academic reputation.... WELL DONE! YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY!!!!

Being a recent (2000) UCLA grad myself, I might be a bit biased... but it really depends on which suits you and where you plan to be afterwards. UC Berkeley and UCLA are about the same in academics, reputation, and opportunity, but very different atmospheres. I hope that when you visited Stanford you visited UC Berkeley, as it is about and hour away. For me the choice was easy between the two - from the moment I set foot on the UCLA campus I knew that was the place for me. Being closer to whichever area you intend to stay in upon graduation offers a bit more opportunities and contacts, especially important in this economy. Now, Stanford is another ball game and in my opinion, an even better choice if you can get in. But it will also may be significantly more expensive, depending on your scholarship awards at each school. Let me know if you have any questions about UCLA, as I am an active member of the Bay Area Alumni Association and am actually applying to law and business school right now for my JD/MBA. Kyle |

I'm tranferring next fall to one of these three. I have already applied to UCLA and Berkely, and I am guaranteed acceptance. I have a 4.0 GPA and am in the honors programs at my current college. More than likely, these two schools will offer me full rides. I am applying to Stanford as we speak, and I *MIGHT* get accepted. I'm hoping I do, as I just got back from a trip to NorCal to visit the campus. It is AMAZING. So, if I get into all three, which one should I choose? I'm a history major, and I plan on going to law school when I'm done with my BA. Any suggestions? |
