Yeah Jim, dump that old Jag with "3-on-the-tree" and get a Sentra. :-)

Jim... sigh... nobody flame me for this, ok...?

Jim, get a '90s model Sentra... i know, i know, everyone's tired of hearing about my Sentra... BUT, consider these things:

1). When i got my car in February, '02, it had just over 173k miles on it... It now has 197,049 miles on it, and by the time i get to the 02/06/03 one year anniversary of owning it, i'll have averaged just over 2k miles per month...

2). i've had the pads replaced twice since i got the car... the car came with oil leaks, one of which i had repaired, still there's more to be done... a tow truck snapped the front axel, i had to have that replaced- which was only a few months after having it replaced a first time... a tie rod or two, some struts in the front, a starter motor, an alternater, a neutral switch (is that what it's called?) and maybe one or two other things have gone into the car, since i took over ownership... Oh, and new (used) front tires, too... i know it seems like a lot, total was probably just under 2k for everything, BUT:

3). i drive my car so hard, Schumacher stopped by one day and said, "dude, take it easy..." The daily wear and tear of putting it in neutral while it's moving, just to rev the engine when i'm riding along side a sports car, to try and get a rise (and a race) out of the other driver or putting it in neutral at a light, revving the engine and bringing it down to drive so i peal out when the light turns green or repeated, HARD acceleration followed by repeated, HARD braking, A LOT or chirping down the Northern State Parkway at 110 mph or hitting a deer or getting hit by a MerceDES or literally making it airborne after purposely nailing one of those thick, metal speed bump plates in Manhattan at a high speed or whatever will cause things to sometimes break... Now i'm sure most of you drive your cars a lot easier than i drive mine, so if you think about, had you taken this Sentra back in February instead of me, it would probably have less miles and a lot less problems... This car is impervious and it owes me nothing... Sentras aren't very fast, but damn if this isn't reliable, especially considering the abuse i give it...!

Um... just my $0.02 :-)

Jon makes a good point because Audi is not in the reputation class (sudden accel problems etc) as BWM and MERC you tend to get more value for the money. I loved the audis I have had

Jim,

I don't own the 4.2 but do have a 2.8 A6. It's a nice car and good value for the money when compared with BMW and Merc products in the same segment. However that being said I feel that the quality of materials used on the interior is far inferior to the BMW and Merc's especially the leather which on our 2 1/2 year old car is darkening and showing signs of creasing. On a BMW I would not expect to see this until the car was at least 5+ years old. We have put 40,000 miles on the car in this time so it's not overused.

I can also say that the warranty issues while being small things (broken switches, replaced trim, creaking things from the dash) will add up once the car is out of warranty.

I had owned 4 BMW's before I bought my first Audi (96 A4). Bottom line is that the Audi is a fine automobile but there is a reason the A4 I bought was $4000 cheaper than the equivelent 328i or that the A6 2.8 Avant I bought cost nearly $8000 less than the 540i wagin I looked at.

Hope this helps!

The new RS6 has 450hp from a twin turbo V8. it could be worth waiting for. I think its coming over in a year.

It's time to replace my daily driver and I'm considering an A6 4.2. I've always liked Audis and the thought of 300hp on tap is intriguing. Does anybody own one? Any reliability/service issues? Any thoughts are appreciated.
