1) Pravda is a total JOKE nowadays. The Russian version of the National Enquirer and nothing more. 2) Russia does not have the money to "rearm". They never "disarmed" they just could not afford to pay their military. They still can't. They make a lot of money selling arms to other countries. What the USA does has no bearing on how happy they are to sell arms to others. Art, have you ever been to Russia? I have tons of Russian friends, I do alot of business there, and I have spent a lot of time in cities all over Russia. I know the people, the mentality, the business environment, and the political envuronment. They are more worried about getting their huge corruption problem solved which sucks up what little money they have. They are in NO position to "rearm". Try again. |

The Russians & the US are allies now. Especially now that Afghanistan has been tamed and the US & Russia can put an oil pipeline through there. Guess who will be the #1 customer for Russian oil. Thats right, the US. What a coincidence, Oh my |

What complete crap. I guess the Russians can "rearm" by building more of the anti-GPS type jamming systems such as the ones sold to Iraq to counter the JDAM and Cruise Missiles. You know.... like the ones taken out by US JDAMS's.... Russia spends around $10 Billion annually on defense. The US Spends over $300 Billion. The Russians have not focused large spending efforts on developing cutting edge military technology for over 10 years. The gap at this point is so huge there is no way the Russians will ever catch up. Period. The Russians need to be careful about spouting off and selling hardware to Iraq and like nations. Im sure there are plenty of Chechnyan rebel groups who would love to purchase some stinger and hellfire missiles. Would be a great thing for the US too: Sell the Chechnyan fundamentalist all this high tech stuff, they use it to attrite the Russian military who in turn kills large numbers of Islamic fundamentalist. Win-Win for the USA Sure worked out well in Afghanistan during the 1980's The only nation really capable of doing an arms race with the US and/or developing military hardware potentially on par with the US is China. They are the "next superpower". Look at the rate of growth their economy has shown over the past 10 years. Scary.... |

Sorry but I cant see Germany paying $ to rearm Russia, Remember WW2 & the COld War where Germany & Russia were mortal enemies from 1939 till the USSR fell apart. The French I can see doing it, just to PO everybody else |

thats a funny story. they are increasing their armed force's strength - but to what end? repelling invaders - pretty unlikely; or to maintain and secure the current boundaries of the fsu - read keep chechnya and anybody else with seccesionist ideas in line. either way its their choice. with what money are going to do it? we'll see. i actually think thats just fine though because politics will eventually bow to economics, and they will come back to being our allies on most issues. and a strong ally is better than an empoverished one. |

Finally someone pointed out the pravda website, i was looking for that since ages. Thanks. I think the EU will be a better financier than the US right now, if Russia is considering a loan. |

Maybe after the war, Iraq will give them a good deal on buying their unused stuff back. |

I can't believe they can afford to re-arm. I bet they will take out a loan with the US AND we'll give it to them. |

wish them well - if they do this perhaps they can deal with the chechan (sp) more easily. I also think its great that they have chosen to write off the loans to Iraq - it will make it that much easier for the Iraqi people to rebuild without the debt hangin over their head. |

Sadly, I believe this is Russia being more than a little opportunistic... but they are, of course, well within their rights to do it... |
