Sorry Ross, I won't hijack it again. Just saying that the newly set up company, DaimlerChrysler Malaysia has no plans to bring the Viper to our shores. The tax structure would've made owning this car too difficult even for the rich people (we tax cars according to it's displacement, the 8 liter engine sure doesn't help much). |

I had a 2003 SRT Viper on order but I deferred the purchase because i want a yellow 2004, and I am planning to buy a 550 from a friend and I can't justify/afford both in one year. As for the car. It is quite impressive. I have heard the heat was on pre-production and press cars and has been mostly or totally fixed on the production models. The Viper is not like most sports cars - my GTS was a brute. There is nothing like >500lb-ft of torque. They may be rated for 490, but my GTS made 465 to the wheels. It was a total *animal*.

MFZ is an idiot, don't encourage him. First off, Ross starts this thread about hte Viper and MFZ decides to post an irrelevant link which goes along with his anti-US attitude. Oh look how stupid the Americans are... MFZ go back to making out with your sister or whatever gay ass sh_t you did before you found FC. Seriously, do know anything about Ferraris anyways? Do you ever post any knowledgeable information or comment? It seems to me you spend the vast majority of the time here in OT bitching and moaning because you live in a little school girl of a country. |

Chris: Your point is quite valid, and I agree 100%! But MFZ does his best to find SOMEWAY of jabbing the US, regardless of the post. If he wasn't such a US basher, his post *might* have been valid. But 'cause it was coming from him, it was just another attempt at punchin' the good 'ol US in the nutz. |

Hi Guys, I usually stay out of any arguments on these boards as I really like everyone on this site and have greatly enjoyed being a member. Perhaps there's a history here with MFZ that I'm not aware of, but in reading what's below, it seems MFZ (albeit introducing a non-sequitur) is getting some unfair heat. To me, all he seemed to be pointing out, is that in the era of globalization, companies are finding it cheaper to have their back office in India, their accounting in another country, etc. Everything is becoming so globally interconnected in a way that is cheaper and more efficient for everyone. Our world economy is so closely linked as personified in the domino-effect of the Thai Bhat collapse in the late 90's. All of this is well documented in Thomas L. Friedman's excellent book "The Lexus & the Olive Tree". Friedman also has another excellent book of his columns from the New York Times pre & post 9/11 entitled "Longitudes & Attitudes" - and if anyone is "pro-America", it is certainly Friedman; a very astute and brilliant writer. All this means is that forward-thinking companies are diversifying in the global marketplace; hence, championing products from "one" country is becoming an anachronism. I don't see any "US bashing" in what he's stated, save perhaps "way to go, misguided patriots" - which is correct in my opinion as explained above. ~C |

Maybe you should go to Kuala Lumpur, climb those god awful, smelly steps up to Batu Caves with a paper mache figure on your shoulders, feed a monkey some coke, burn some incense and contemplate life. dude, I have been to Singapore and KL and they ahve their problems too. Fix your own country before you screw with mine. |

One of the things I missed while living in Europe was having so many different choices for all sorts of things, automobiles for one. I pointed out the fine print on the ident plate on a friend's '97 Dodge 1500 that said "Made in Mexico." He wasn't too thrilled with that. Travel a while MFZ, live in another country thousands of miles away and learn to appreciate what it and its people have to offer before giving lessons to Americans on how to spend their money. This is made tongue in cheek, sharing parts bins is way more common then the consumer realizes. Sunny |

seriously MFZ, I sit back and read what you say and you are just a f$cking antagonistic idiot. Stick to your own country with its sweltering heat, your french cars with their crappy air conditioners and your curry laced with fractured chicken bones. This site is supposed to be about ferraris and they people who like to discuss them. If you want to talk politics then find another site. All your rhetoric gives me gas and tired head. |

If you were paying attention, I was only bashing the owner of said website. According to website, Road & Track is owned by Hachette Filippachi, which is a French company, even though the staff of R&T is mostly American, is printed in America, features American cars (along with other cars, but let's stick to the point here), etc. According to the article inside same website, Chrysler is now more German than American, so Americans should boycott their products, which would include the Dodge Viper. Even though the Viper is made in America, built and designed by Americans, uses mostly American parts, etc. Just because the company has more German/French money in it, doesn't mean it's less American than you think. I was just pointing out that boycotting products or services is silly, in this age of globalization. |

Off topic, but according to this website: www.howtobuyamerican.com, Americans should support US-made products, and apparently both the Dodge Viper and Road & Track magazine aren't. I bet it's a great car (they don't sell Vipers here, too bad), but thanks to websites like the one above, some people will never experience it. Way to go, misguided patriots. |

finally got round to reading the road&track article last night. what a beast ! 0-60 4.1, 0-100 8.9, top speed 190 est, cornering 1.04 g ! slalom 68.4 mph, these are huge numbers. the only downside i could detect in the commentary was that the heat on the drivers side was hellish, but should be fixable. i am even beginning to like the shape. anybody have any first hand experience? |
