Sorry Guys I meant that I wouldn't be surprised
if conditions were that bad. Although I think the punishment is way harsh on both counts.I bet that crime rates alot lower there though. The third is absurd. I wonder if there women are really that ugly the need to cover them up with sheets...

Jee-
The first one I think is a little harsher than what I think is is required. The 2nd sounds appropriate to me. And the 3rd is too conservative for my blood, although I have met people that would want it to be that way in America.
But it's their country and their laws. It would be like a person from Amsterdam coming to the US and getting jailed for having hash and bitching about it, too bad for them, they broke a law here.

Aaron,

I worked with a man who had worked overseas for Aramco for ten years. He was working in Saudi Arabia. I will list some of the things he witnessed while there.
1. At an outdoor market, he saw in several different locations, human hands hanging over the doorway entrances. He said that over there, if you were caught stealing, your hand was cut off and given to the person from who you were stealing. Merchants would hang them over their doorways to show they had no tolerance for theft.

2. Witnessed an outdoor public execution. Two filipino had killed a Saudi girl. They were beheaded in public and it was broadcast on the Arabian TV network.

3. He was personally detained at the airport when entering the country. They searched his luggage and found a cassette tape case that he was carrying. It was a Crystal Gayle tape and she had a lower cut top on that showed just the smallest amount of cleavage. Nothing we would even give a second thought to. He was held for bringing pornography into the country and it took an embassy official to get him out. The Saudi's confiscated the cassette. Probably to look at later.

He said these things were common and apparently it is just a part of how they live there. This was 12 years ago so maybe some things have changed but I doubt it.

I think this is something that every American needs to hear. Most just do not realize how good we have it here and the liberties and freedoms that we take for granted. You heard her say that if she spoke out against Saddam that her tongue would be cut out and her children raped in front of her. And people wonder why we want this madman out.

Brian, thanks for posting this. This shows us the difference between class Don & Roma; the girl) and scum (the death-wisher).

Bret, right on. Just like that c_cksucker Columbia "professor" who told his students that he hoped the US would lose the war and suffer "a thousand Mogadishus":

Nothing says you're truly for world peace like saying you wish someone would die...

If you are a Chicago area resident, you may have heard about this incident on the "Don and Roma" call-in show on WLS. If not, you'll appreciate hearing it ... it's quite moving.

Here's what led up to this call... Don and Roma's son is an F18 fighter pilot (and ex-Blue Angel and local Chicago celeb), who is stationed somewhere near Iraq now. An antiwar protester emailed Don and Roma stating that he hoped their son would die if the US goes to war against Iraq. It brought tears to Roma's eyes, but she still read this hateful email on the air. After hearing it read, an Iraqi-American girl called in and this is what she had to say:

Don and Roma are going to replay this call everyday until the war is over.
