Peter had some really good suggestions, and I think your friend's SIATA would be another good one. How about the Aston DB2 or the AC Bristol from England? And I see that a BMW 502 was a class winner in 1957 - that might be about the fastest "luxury car" you could enter, and I think there is a nice one for sale in my area here for less than $10,000, but it might be newer than 1957. I helped a few years ago to prep a Ferrari 375MM for the event, that was fun, and all of the precautions paid off, he had no trouble at all except for a weeping axle seal. You need plenty of battery power for creeping along in the slow sections at night with lights and wipers going. And you need a well calibrated speeedometer, I don't think they allow any fancy timing gear. Oh, and don't expect to win anything, I understand that it's pretty much "fixed" for the Italians to take all of the silverware. |

well - that counts out everything Italian! They have a really intense list of do's and don'ts....and each year the cars get more and more expensive. |

I'd reccomend a coupe with working windshield wipers, defroster, and a heater. Also make sure cooling system, brakes and everything are in very good shape. Tires as well. Wet and blind gets old quick. Mufflers or ear plugs. This one is longer than you think. Read the entry docs very carefully. They don't let you bend them. Best Jim |

Since you guys are the brains of the operation - what pre-1957 vehicle would you think is a competitive car for the Mille Miglia? - and which one is relatively speaking not overpriced? I am currently working on getting info for the 2004 race. My friend races a Siata <sp?> |
